I think everyone should cut Stoudemire a break. The man did not play any basketball during the lockout... He is worth the money the Knicks are paying. He wants to win....

Yes sir, last season DID happen. And that's the very point: It was LAST season!
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

Amare is going to have a random 28 pt night one of these days, and that'll be when we hear " I told you I was back... I felt good tonight... Starting to get my rhythm back" stuff..
I hope he returns to form, we need him to... He shows tiny shades of light here and there when he's set up... But he just looks like a shell of the former self... The guy who went up against Griffin last year when they both had all those dunks and Timmy got Blaked... Maybe the combo of not playing for a while over off season, and not having a true PG to stay up to peak on rolling and exploding has hurt him... He finds it easier and more efficient to start laying back a bit and looking at his career and getting the most out of it.. changing his game to more of a jumpshooter to extend it... W/e it is.. He hasn't had one of those "Stat takeover" games where we give the ball to him and he does his thing and they ride him out... And that's not just because of team ball....
You can see they're forcing it a bit with him to start each game, trying to get him going... He always takes the first 4 or 5 shots of the game it seems ( maybe that's why our starts have been so bad).. and he usually doesn't hit them.

Sadly, you are most correct. We tend to waste time early each game trying in vain to get Amare started!

That could be because he's a vital part to this team? If he gets going, and I think he will, then we're going to be very hard to stop on offense. It's not like we're force feeding him the ball. He's coming off cross screens, downscreens, etc -- he's just missing the shots.

Re: Amare finally addresses lack of explosion / poor play
I just want to see STAT play some defense. He really lost his mid range jumper that was so deadly when he was at Phoenix. I hope it is just a rhythm thing. Defense is something he can focus on right now.

We would ALL like to see Stat play some defense, Mr. Husky. But sadly, defense and Stoudemire cannot be used in the same sentence!
Seriously though, we knew when we first hired Stat that he was no defensive player. We knew it. BUT at the time, his offensive prowess overshadowed his lazy defensive performances. Now we get no defense and currently precious little offense.

Re: Amare finally addresses lack of explosion / poor play
1)
Amare has definitely played better defense this year by virtue of simply exerting himself. I think this is clear, he's absolutely been mindful of playing "more defense" than he has in the past. Whether or not it's been effective is debatable, but I definitely can see for sure that he's put more effort into it this year
2)
I'd say 25-33% of the issue with Amare's defense is that he simply doesnt have a high BBIQ on the defensive side. He gets caught out of position so much. Caught sleeping on the backdoor. Losing his man on rotation, horrible traps up top on pnrs.
If someone would just sit him down and spend time cleaning up his mental mistakes on positioning, spacing, and technique, he'd fix up SO MANY of his mistakes without expending a ton more effort than he's normally used to on the defensive side.
That's what is infuriating with Amare. He makes stupid mistakes on defense that are easily correctable that have gone uncorrected for his whole career.

Re: Amare finally addresses lack of explosion / poor play
piggy backing off a thread on the GB, here's what i found
http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... rder_by=fg
STAT shot .460 on jumpshots +15ft away from the basket last year
Melo shot .430
amare was 16th in the league in fg%
wade was one of the worst fwiw (sub .400)
dirk was simply godly at .526
in '09-'10
amare shot .426 on the same FGs for 34th best in the league
for THIS YEAR
amare is shooting .363
just fwiw.

I just wonder if he's never gonna get his legs this season. Players have bad seasons. It's not unheard of. We should start prepping ourselves for the worst now and not think he's gonna turn it around...

I've been prepping myself for weeks now, because I agree with you: Stat is VERY unlikely to turn it around. I would LOVE to be wrong and will welcome a crow sandwich if I am. I will be the first to apologize loudly.
BUT, my prediction is that Stat will be a season-long disappointment!
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

Eh...why? You do realize that, aside from his bad defense (which has always been a problem), the reason he's doing so poorly on offense is he's missing his jumpers, right? His % took a massive dip...due to him taking 6 months off to recover from injuries, him putting on too much weight, not enough practice/rest days, etc. I see no reason to believe that he's "very unlikely" to turn it around.
He's also finishing around the rim better this year than he did last year...

Probably because of the extra weight

yep. he simply doesn't know what he's doing. that's why you can put in mediocre defensive player like novak who at least understands defense and get the team defense to be a lot better. it's frustrating with amar'e because it seems as though he's a big reason teams can easily score in the paint against the knicks.
