Rank the young assets of the Jazz..

Post#1 » by sendai91 » Fri Mar 2, 2012 7:48 pm

How would you rank these assets to the Jazz in terms of future long-term value to the organization and on-court production?

Alec Burks
Derrick Favors
Gordon Hayward
Enes Kanter
GSW #1 pick ( hard to assess right now, of course...)

My ranking?

Burks - everything screams play him 25 + mins a game and see what happens

Kanter - Huge upside, obvious impact on the boards, great ft% shooter, needs to figure our a consistent post-up game

#1 pick

Favors - honestly, I've been underwhelmed by his year in the Beehive state. Seems to be hesitant / reluctant to go into beast mode. Higher ceiling than Hayward...

Hayward - Wondering if we'll ever see a consistently solid game from him, seems to have the physical tools, but his first year with Deron seems to have him in some sort of PTSD fog that he can't shake..

Favors
Burks
Kanter
Hayward
#1 pick.......

I've been dissapointed with Hayward this season...... I thought he would play better and be more consistent.......

But, I'm certainly more than willing to give him more time......

Kanter
Favors
Burks
Hayward

- A little bit surprised about Favors' slow development; kid just don't have a clue on how to use his body, height, athleticism... and there's no indication of good coaching either

- A little bit of confirmation on Hayward's lack of grit/assertiveness; kid's just to nice and soft... dangerously nice...

- Kanter plays well in his rookie year after not being able to play competitive basketball for so much time, and he's got a knack for rebounding and banging out there

- Burks attitude is just great and kid's got game

kanter is far and away the number 1 for me. i fully believe he will be better than kevin love in a few years. i want badly to like favors but he looks worse right now than he did last year. maybe a training camp helps that? maybe he is worried that the organization hasn't committed to him?

A better Kevin Love would be basically Moses Malone, are we really expecting this from Kanter?

by "better" i just mean kevin love with defense and a powerful inside game. i think they will put up similar rebounding numbers. love may be a better scorer.

Favors
Kanter
Hayward/Burks
2012 UTA 1st
2012 GSW 1st

Favors has gobs of potential, and IMHO, earned the starting position the other night against Houston. Kanter is fantastic too, but his offense has a long way to go. Hayward and Burks both have things in their games that need quite a bit of work, but they are the wings of the future for us.

Kanter
Burks
Hayward
Favors
GSW Pick

I've always been a bigger fan of Hayward and Favors but so far I think that Kanter and Burks have shown more potential. I've been disappointed with the progression of Hayward and Favors so far this season.

Alec Burks - I think he will be a Brandon Roy type player and be an All-Star eventually.
Enes Kanter - Could be like Kevin Love a little bit, don't see him being that good though, better defender.
Derrick Favors - Seeing him more as a Tyson Chandler type player.
Gordon Hayward - Not sure what Hayward could be like right now.

Kevin Love with better defense is probably the league MVP. Seems like a reasonable projection for a guy who is currently putting up mostly 5/5 games.

This is a very good question. None of the kids have really stepped up. And in my opinion, none of them have shown to be busts either. A lot of imcomplete grades out there right now.

Only Hayward is getting significant minutes. He's not lighting the world on fire with them, but, he's doing enough out there to warrant the minutes he's getting. He's going to need the ball in his hands more if he's going to do much more than he's doing.

Kanter is playing very well, within his self almost all the time. Right now he projects as our top prospect, but, it could just be he's the flavor of the month. Until we see him play significant minutes over an extended period it's going to be really hard to be sure if he's good or just efficient.

Favors.... I'm pretty down on Favors right now. I thought he almost cost us the game against Miami last night. From missing free throws, to dribbling the ball off his foot out of bounds, to just not protecting the paint, I thought he was pretty bad out there. Definitely the highest bust potential of all the young guys.

Draft picks... Due to the protections on both picks they are both really hard to determine value right now. We might not end up with either. But, I'd put longer odds of us keeping our own pick than getting the GS pick right now.

Burks looks pretty good. He actually made a jumpshot last night and looked comfortable doing it. I'd love to see him get some real burn, but, that's not going to happen this year.

So...

Kanter
Favors
Hayward
Burks
2012 Jazz 1st
2012 GS 1st

Kanter is no comparison for Love. Just not the same player.

Kanter showed last night that he is UNTRADEABLE, Favors showed last night that he is UNTRADEABLE, Burks showed last night that he is UNTRADEABLE, and Hayward showed last night that he is UNTRADEABLE.

Kanter is 19 and is more polished than i ever expected, give him two years he'll be a 15-15 guy.

I liked the Chandler comparison to Favors, but I think it's selling him a little short. Favors has a Offensive game that Tyson could only dream of, but Favors needs work he needs to prove that he can stay on out of foul trouble and play within the offense.

I dont know what to expect from Burks but I do know he is demanding more minutes from Ty.

Hayward is struggling to find consistency, but i think that mainly comes from who he is on the floor with. He is the type of player that is best suited making plays with the ball in his hands, and with the SL on the floor he is mainly a spot up shooter, not his strength. But when given minutes with the 2nd team he tends to flourish, dropping dimes, getting to the rack and being more of a focal point.

The most tradeable assets right now are our picks. If we land two lotto picks this year I'm sure we'll have plenty of options to either take two kids, trade up, or trade out. We've got youth, and talent that most teams covet now we just gotta find a way to make the pieces fit.

I know a lot of fans are disappointed with Hayward this year. Their disappointment is somewhat unwarranted.

If you compare Hayward to the class he was drafted with last year and look at his improvement over the first year, he doing as well as the best in the soph class and a lot better than most. The 2nd year is almost always the hardest year for young NBA players.

Hayward is playing better than most people give him credit for. He's one of the best defenders on the Jazz, no matter who he has been matched up against. He has an excellent floor game which always leads to assists, rebounds, steals and blocks. Jazz fans rarely seem to wonder why Hayward got a steal or block when he did. They don't recognize his positioning prior to the steal or the block.

As far as his shooting goes, he's still the best shooter on the Jazz in practice. He's struggling in the games for some reason, which I often think is related to rushing his shots. He seems to be going inside more and taking the hits, which is good. Next year and after, he's going to wind up at the line a lot. Once he starts making his 10 to 16 foot shots and his 3's, he'll be a significant offensive threat because he'll have to defended inside and outside. That's when his scoring average will take a leap.

In February Hayward was 3rd in avg points per game, tied for 3rd on scoring efficiency (which is hard to do for wing players), he's 4th in assists, 3rd in steals and 3rd in blocked shots. Overall that's pretty good.

Next year will be a critical year for Hayward. The 3rd year is the year when players put it all together and advance to around 80% of their eventual contribution.

So hold the disappoint judgment off for awhile.

Hayward is doing fine. There's no reason to be down on him. The stroke will return, and he's already doing everything else at a pretty high level. Some folks are definitely sleeping on his defense, which has been consistently strong.

All 4 of these guys are a very good core to begin the rebuild .. is anyone a superstar or allstar at this loint its way too early to tell but the signs are there ... in every case the only thing these guys need is time/experience and then we will see much better players.

Heyward
Favors
Burks
Kanter

Heyward - its way too early to be down on him ... if the offense was running through him it would be interesting to see how much better this team would be .. even at his young age.

Favors - Really the same as Heyward ... just needs more time and touches.

Burks - not far behind and will be a good player i beleive.

Kanter - even though he ranks 4th he is going to be solid as well.

Hence "little bit", no where did I say he was going to be Kevin Love out there. Not to mention he's averaging 5/5 in 15 minutes in his first season of where he should be in college right now.
