We give up two bench players and get back two starters. I'd say we have to add and I would be more than fine (as long as it's not Rubio/Love/Pekovic).

Really?
Williams is a "bench player"?
And ironically Wes Johnson is starting

You know, Randolph would have value to Portland. They need another big off the bench and their fans have asked about him in the past. I'd think he would be a throw in as well.

Is there a point to be made or are you just being overly pedantic?

Yes, you're calling the #2 pick in this year's draft and a starter "two bench players for two starters".
I thought the point was obvious.

Derrick Williams currently comes off the bench for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Wes Johnson currently sucks at basketball and demonstrates the skills of a player best suited to come off the bench.

Unless you are going to seriously argue against either of those claims stop wasting my time with your pedantic nonsense.

The better term to use other than bench players is "prospects" even though Johnson is looking like a bench player down the road, unless he steps his game up big time.

You're calling the #2 pick in the draft a bench player like he's Luke Ridnour and arguing about pedantics?

Like I said, I thought the point was fairly obvious.

What if we take out Matthews and Wes Johnson?

Portland out:
Batum, Felton
Portland in:
Rondo, Randolph

Minnesota out:
Randolph, Williams
Minnesota in:
Batum

Boston out:
Rondo
Boston in:
Williams, Felton

This makes sense to me, but it still leaves us with a hole at either the 2 or the 3. Wes has to stop getting time soon, Beasley isn't coming back, and we just can't play Ridnour at SG any more. Batum fills one hole, is there enough room left to bring in a Wilson Chandler?

Personally, I think it's overpaying for Batum. IMO he's going to get paid more than he's worth next year, so I don't want to pay Williams just to have the right to match that overpaid salary. But others value him more.

Someone mentioned it earlier but wouldn't BOS and POR just do

BOS
+Batum
+Felton

POR
+Rondo

With the core players involved in the proposed trade by OP, unless we overvalue Derrick Williams, two best players are Rondo and Batum. Excluding bad management, that generally means the two best players change teams with one another.

Even if the teams agree on the value of the initial trade, it's hard to imagine POR trading three of their rotation players mid season in a 3 way trade involving a in-conference team (MN) they are fighting the playoff spot with.

Absolutely no interest in trading Williams. Be patient young grasshoppers.

D-Will gonna be very good very soon.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

the trade assumes BOS is going into re-build mode, and while Batum is the better player now, DWill is the better re-build piece. although, if the celts are rebuilding, I am not sure why they would get rid of Rondo...

Yep the more I think about it...if theoretically the wolves traded D Will for Batum then they would have to match any offer for him. If the wolves are willing to pay Batum up to max money, why not offer him max money in the offseason AND keep D Will? Would POR really match a max deal?

And really this goes for any high level restricted free agent...giving up valuable assets for the right or guarantee to overpay a restricted free agent is a slippery slope.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
