Is Jarrod Saltalamacchia really that good? I mean what exactly has he done in the minors to show that he's all that (wiretap says that the Braves would consider dealing him for guys like Willis, Harden or one of the Angels top pitching prospects).

Jarrod Scott Saltalamacchia (born May 2, 1985 in West Palm Beach, Florida) is a baseball player who plays catcher for the Atlanta Braves. He is commonly referred to by his nickname, "Salty".
Saltalamacchia was drafted in the 1st round of the June 2003 amateur draft by the Braves.
Saltalamacchia path to playing full time catcher for the Braves is blocked by Brian McCann. At this point, if Jarrod does not settle for being a back up, he will either have to learn a new position or be traded, if he is going to have a substantial major league career. [1] During practices in May, Saltalamacchia fielded ground balls at first base, leading to speculation he could replace Craig Wilson in a platoon with Scott Thorman at the position.
For the 2007 season, Saltalamacchia started at catcher for the Class AA Mississippi Braves. Only 22 games into the season he has belted 7 home runs, has an average of .373, and his call of the game from behind the plate is improving.
On his 22nd birthday, May 2, 2007, he was called up to Atlanta to replace Brayan Pena on the roster and to fill in for Brian McCann, who reinjured his finger on May 1, 2007.[2] Saltalamacchia's call-up made him the new record holder of the longest last name in Major League Baseball history (14 letters).
On May 6, 2007, Saltalamacchia had the first hit of his major league career in the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the seventh inning, with two outs and two men on base, Salty hit his first RBI, which also drove in the winning run for the Braves.
Saltalamacchia is also married to one of his former high school teachers, Ashley Saltalamacchia. The couple has one daughter, Sidney.

I posted this somewhere else but think it might belong here.....
there are just some people around here who want to blow this thing up and start over from scratch. You don't do that when everyone except your first basemen has been to an all star game, you have a hall of fame pitcher, two others who are boarderline, the runner up for AL-Cy Young from last year, the top pitching prospect in baseball, and the best closer of all time. No you don't give up fellas, don't throw in the towel. You keep fighting, like any winner and champion does. This is not the Toronto Blue Jays, we don't need to dump salary because we can't afford it. We fight, keep trucking until our rotation gets back, healthy, and Rivera works out of this funk. We let Abreu and Robby get their swings back, Johnny get healthy, and keep throwing Proctor out there. If this thing still looks this bleak at the end of July, sure.....then you can talk to me about unloading some of these guys for prospects. But stop....its May, we have two months of fight left in us.

I don't think Willis is an ace right now, Zambrano questionable...Santana is the only one I would trade Hughes for...Arod is pretty much untouchable, I've said all along that I would trade Cano for a top notch pitcher.

Who would play 2nd base? Please don't tell me you want Miguel Cairo out there everyday. I would not deal any of those 3 for Willis or Zambrano. Zambrano we could just sign this winter if we really wanted him. Willis isn't that good. He would have a 5 era in NY. -Jitpal

I didn't say I would trade Cano right now for any of them, but after the season we are going to need to readress our pitching. I would trade Cano for a pitcher if need be.
In regard to the bolded part of your quote......This is coming from the Todd Linden guy?

Todd Linden, in that scenario, would have been the 4th outfielder and would not have played everyday or anywhere near everyday. Maybe once in a week at most. Dealing Cano forces us to put Cairo there every single day and our options in the minor league are guys like Chris Basak. Huge difference. -Jitpal

Exactly, young 2nd baseman with potential who is already very good at the plate and in the field. Who is very cheap too. Then there is Abreu who has a huge contract, is not hitting at the plate and is less than stellar in the outfield but we have to keep him otherwise we wouldn't have a good backup. -Jitpal

LIKE I SAID BEFORE BASEBALL TEAMS BUY LOW AND SELL HIGH. No one is going to touch Abreu for anything decent right now. You guys have to look at it from both sides. I never said I wanted to trade anyone right now. and I quote myself....

Moose is proven.Moose, Rasner and Duncan. Where would I sign? -Jitpal
Man, the Braves don't want our crap. Moose is the only valuable part of that deal. They'll want more than Moose.
Rasner isn't worth much and Duncan is a bust. Again, I don't know how many times I've said this, teams don't want our trash.

And on that note. Good night. Remember these words....when teams buy low, they are going to give low. Remember what we gave up to get Bobby last year? Let me know how those scrubs are doing for Philly right now.
