Lebron, Wade And The Pump Fake

Post#1 » by Heat_team02 » Sat Mar 3, 2012 5:21 pm

The question is short and precise. Why is Wade so good at drawing fouls using the pump fake and why isn't Lebron doing the same?

This is one of the main reasons why Wade should always take the last shot.

Lebron, if you're reading this, take it to the hole and have Wade follow from behind for the putback.

I disagree about Wade trying to take a pump fake on the last shot. You try to make the shot, not get a foul. Wade has been annoying lately with asking for fouls, he's just going to look silly trying to get the foul and not make the shot. He even asks for fouls in the All-Star game... so pathetic... one thing I do not like about my favorite player -_-

LeBron gets more hammered than anyone, but because of his physique it doesn't look that way. He has to flop to make it noticeable.

But is this about last night? Because the hot hand should have taken the shot and it was LeBron, but LeBron made the right basketball play. Wade was messing up all last night. There wasn't enough time for a clear out iso anyway.

Even if Wade got someone to bite, at best it would be a tie game anyway.

Wade's pump fake is one of the main reason's he struggled early on this season, IMO. He tried to pump fake on every damn play instead of just going up for a jump shot. It lead to inconsistency in his balance on his jumper.

Wow, you people sure as hell know how to overreact to one game we couldn't close. Aside of that, LeBron uses plenty of fakes, his are more headfakes than the obvious pumpfakes he uses.

The pump fake doesn't complement Lebron's game the same way it does Wade's. It's a move that takes advantage of the opponent's speed and uses it against him. For Wade, its often a counter. One of his go-to moves is to start right, then cross-over left while stepping back - its a sick crossover into a step-back J. Defenders will play the drive hard, and when he crosses back, they'll overplay the recovery, which is when the pump fake is so valuable: they are closing out too hard because he shook them so hard with the cross over.

The other time Wade uses it is when guys play off him off the ball, and then close hard on him.

Lebron's game is more power, straight-line drives, and he doesn't use an exaggerated crossover to get a step-back J like Wade does. He's also more accurate past 15 feet, so guys sag off him a little less when he's not on the ball, which means they don't recover as hard to him. As such, a pump fake wouldn't be nearly as valuable a weapon for him.

And not all pump fakes are created equal, and being able to get guys off their feet consistently with it is not easy. Wade has clearly worked hard to refine his, which makes sense because of the way it works with the rest of his game.

I love Wade's pump fake, but when it's at the end of games, he should learn to focus on the shot and not the foul.

I got pissed with a game last year against the bulls when he hit three 3pt shots against the bulls and on the last one basically was looking for a foul and not focusing on the shot. The refs like to swallow their whistles depending on who it is.

I would like Lebron to use it more, but it may not ever be as affective cause it just might not work with his game you know.
