Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt XIV: Trade Deadline cont
ryan anderson is literally Ilyasova except ryan has has more 3 balls because of the system and therefore slightly better offensive rating. i just compared their career stats and it is staggering how they are the same person almost. same amount of time in the league, same money...
so whenever you're dreaming up a trade for some star that you think ryan anderson is a great return for their star, swap in Ilyasova who, as a magic fan you have no attachment to, and re-asses the deal from the other teams standpoint and see if it still seams as appealing.

Anderson is averaging 17/8 a game at the age of 23. He is pretty much a bigger/younger version of Lewis, with a developing post up game.

Ever saw Ryno put the ball on the floor and get by his defender. Rashard could do it.
Ryno got one spin move and thats it.
Offensively hes just a spot up shooter with some moves. Shard was a complete player.

Actually that couldn't be more wrong. I have seen both put the ball on the floor, and i CRINGED when Rashard Lewis dribbled the ball. The only aspect of his game that Lewis has developed more than Ryan at this point in their various careers is that Lewis has a better post up game. I said it when we traded for Ryan that i believe he's a better player than Rashard Lewis and i'm sticking with that.

And yet Shard's numbers decreased as a result of the system that has supposedly elevated Ryan's numbers. I still haven't seen an explanation for that.
Yes, Ryan has more game to develop, but that's not a bad thing. The guy is 23 and averaging (basically) what Rashard did while he was here, except with twice as many RPG. The rebounds are certainly not a product of the system.

People should not feel threatened by Anderson outperforming Lewis. Anderson is a natural stretch 4 while Lewis was a SF making a positional sacrifice.

Rashard was much better atletic palyer. If Ryan could improve his footwork and overall bodycontrol he could be terrific. But I don't think he could. He has no NBA's PF skills instead of reboundings.

Exactly! Lewis was playing out of position. I'm sure if Stan had moved him to the 3 and started Marcin PF earlier Lewis's number may have been up a little. Ryno is a better PF then Shard.
But I still was really upset with Lewis's game while in Orlando. He couldn't dribble, camped at the three point line for most of the game. Never really went for the rebound the way Ryno does. And being a 6'10 SF at 29/30 years old...did anyone ever see Shard dunk the ball in a Magic uniform? Ever? He'd be on a fast break and have no one on him and then I'd see him lay it up (sometimes miss the layup and have to retry). It drove me nuts!

Anderson is not better than Shard from the 09 team, not yet. Shard was a more versatile scorer and better on D than Anderson. If Anderson has a poor shooting night, he's almost useless. Anderson's a better 3pt shooter. That's it for now.

Are you using Shard's decrease in offensive production when he arrived, and Anderson's improvement as a factor to show Anderson's better? If so, that doesn't even make sense.
Shard's numbers decreased here because he had more scorers around him than he did in Seattle. Here, he had to compete with Dwight, Hedo, and Jameer for baskets. He was THE GUY for the Sonics so of course his numbers came down.
Anderson is our #2 option on offense, in my eyes there's no question about that. Jameer and Turk have regressed since Shard was here. I think that's why you guys think he's better than Shard, because we need Anderson more than we needed Shard.
And back to Ryan's improvement and Shard's decreased offensive production... Shard's came down from 20pts/g. Anderson moved from rookie minutes, to 6th man minutes, to full-time starter, of course he's going to improve.
I'd take 09 Shard over Anderson today in a heartbeat.

Dear God...he dunked it! Why couldn't he have done that in the other 250 games he suited up for Orlando. We'd have two titles!

FWIW

^^ Hmm...
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/o ... 049.column
The Magic knew Howard so well that they were accustomed to deprogramming him after he returned from the summers listening to people tell him what a superstar of his stature needed. Only this time he had the power to exit.
I don't know exactly what's changed since December with Dwight, but something has.
^^ Hmm...
I don't know if the Magic's ability to acquire another point guard or scorer will tip the scales with Dwight. He knows the club doesn't have the kind of assets to strike a significant deal. If they did, the Magic would be a better team with a brighter playoff future.
If he still wants to enjoy the spoils of playing in a bigger market, then landing a Monta Ellis or Steve Nash can't really win him over.
The Magic have told Howard he doesn't need to leave li'l Orlando to build a global brand.
As super-agent David Falk — who represented the first branded star, Michael Jordan — told SI.com, "I think these guys are being told by these agents who aren't very sophisticated in marketing that you have to be in New York or L.A. to be marketable. Maybe they've never heard of the Internet."
The saga continues.
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:
"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

Yup, easy to forget. Shard could score in a lot of ways. He was fine putting the ball on the floor. I think it's because of the high expectations he had on him when he got here than people are questioning his game today. Ryan Anderson was a throw in on a deal that involved Vince Carter. Not many people here knew about him. He's developed pretty well, but he's no Rashard Lewis. I'm open to the possibility that he could match his impact on the game. But there's things he'll never do as well as Shard. Some of those things can't be taught.

It's to the benefit of ESPN and some of these NBA beat writers to paint a picture that Orlando's cap situation really is bad because they want Howard out of Orlando. Yes we don't have as much flexibility as we'd like but the reality is were not doomed as they paint us. A move here, a move there and at the end of 2012-2013 we have cap room to bring Dwight in some help. And with Paul and Deron likely picking up their options for 2013. That makes a strong 2013 class. Iggy, Paul, DWill, all of the restricted PG's out there. It's looking like we can bring Dwight in some help.
