Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
BJ Penn has no business being ranked in the top 10 at WW. I'm pretty sure he's only ever beaten Matt Hughes at WW. Plus he's semi-retired.
Nate Marquardt should probably be removed for inactivity, but even if you're including him, I don't see how he's still #4.
Florian #3 FW? He's 1-1. Insulting to the other guys who actually fight regularly at that weight class.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
Awesome cammo was actually meaning to ask if you were going to restart them mate.
Think your top 3 is very fair right now in p4p. Anderson really is at that stage where as long as he keeps winning its hard to question him. GSP honestly has to go behind Jones purely because Jones finishes fights, despite his lack of experience (and lets face it Jones is pretty damn experienced now given his recent competition, Shogun, Machida and Rampage, that's a pretty good cross section of ex-champs).
Do you feel Aldo can creep into 3rd if he gets enough activity while GSP is off?
Also I hope you never meet Rampage, as he takes things very personally, I bet he wouldn't like you having him in 12th lol.

Not sure how you ranked Mike Russow as the 13th best HW...he's 35, gassed in his last fight and he's gone 4-0 in the UFC against weak competition. I don't even know if Mike Russow belongs on the top 25 HW list...

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
Nick Diaz needs to face one of those heavyhanded wrestlers. That'll sort the division out some, I think.
Gustaffson is no good. And has beaten no one. He shouldn't be ranked that highly in a stacked division. Rich Franklin would spank him, for example.

I can't think of Rashad as #7 P4P, but I can't really dispute it either.

Any time guys move divisions it is tricky. You have to take into account both what they have done in the division, and what they have done outside of the division. With guys like Penn and Florian, despite limited fights in the division, do you really see many of the guys rated below them beating them? I don't. Benavidez is only 1-0 at Flyweight, should he not be #1 there?
I try to avoid taking guys off for inactivity when I know they are not retired. If Marquardt would hurry up and fight at 170, I could move him down there.

I don't know that Aldo has the level of competition to make a run at the top 3 until someone in the top 3 loses. There is just so much more talent at LHW, MW, and WW than their is at FW. Aldo is a fantastic fighter, and an Edgar fight would help cement his legacy, but I can't see it moving him over GSP. Same goes for Cruz.
Rampage and I have something in common, neither of us can make 205 lbs.

its cuz HWs are **** outside of the top 7ish.
edit. not ****.. but average and certainly of a lower fight skill level than other divisions.

Fair point regarding Benavidez, but to me the difference is, he's 1-0, with the win being a dominant one over probably the #2 guy in the division (before the UFC guys dropped down). He's also never lost to anyone other than the BW champion. It's more reasonable to assume he'll continue to excel at FLW than it is to assume the 1-1 at FW Florian would remain at #3 in the division when he's been proven to fall short against the elite in other divisions, and likewise for the 2-3-1 (by my count) BJ Penn at WW.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
I'd have Ortiz ranked higher at FLW. But then, I'm a homer like that.
Also, cbr, you think lhw is a stacked division? I mean it has star power at the top, but no depth imo.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
8. Eddie Alvarez
10. Michael Chandler
It's just hard for me to look beyond that. Chandler was lighting him up before he gassed, then went back to lighting him up again after receiving second wind, and finished the guy. Plus I know you respect Woodard, and he beat him. In addition he subbed a BJJ prodigy in Held. I also think it's probable Patricky proves to be better than anyone Alvarez has beaten, including Kawa. He has better striking and sub defense. Kawa only has a little edge in wrestling and cardio, but I think that issue is overblown when it comes to Patricky. BFC has AT LEAST 4 of the top 25 LW's between Chandler, Alvarez, Freire, and Tirloni (although I'm not going to begrudge you on that one given his lack of sample thus far). Hawn could prove to be worthy as well.

I agree with CBR that it is indeed stacked. JBJ is just making everybody else look bad right now. LHW almost always has to be a strong division because just about anybody who can cut to below the 206-lb limit will to avoid huge weight disadvantages against 280-290 lb heavies.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
It really is insane just how good LW is in general. Just ridiculous.

I edited in a response to you about your assessment of the LHW division.
How did you respond to my post so quickly? I hate when that happens because then an editing note winds up on the bottom. I thought that was easily quick enough.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
Just bored at the office, and the Bucks don't interest as much anymore so I just chill on this board.
I just think lhw is pretty top heavy, with guys that are below the top 3-4 guys who have talent but haven't really made the leap yet (Mousasi, Gustaffson, Davis, etc). Also a lot of guys exiting their primes right now as well who used to make the division more rich (e.g., Quinton, Ace). When I think stacked I think deep I guess and I'm not seeing too much there, yet. I agree with your reasoning as to why its an exciting division though. Its like the big guys with knockout power who aren't too fat to run.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
I think that's the reason why it's exciting too, but you brought that conversation to the table my friend. I was arguing why I think it's DEEP.
In regards to the depth debate, I do think you have a point on the timing of greats now being passed their primes. UFC/Zuffa is allowing them to compete in relevant matches for too long for marketing purposes. But conversely they are holding their up and comers back as a result. If they were getting bigger matches they'd be viewed as the top of the division instead.

Re: Cammo's MMA Rankings
I personally would of ranked Rory Mcdonald higher but I can understand why he's so low.
They need to do a better job of putting him against better fighters.
Its as if UFC doesnt want to rush his development.
