Well unless we trade Hedo for Camby and BBD, Duhon, & J-Rich for Kaman... it's not going to happen.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=7nbgfyp (This is just for example purposes, it's not something I believe will happen).
Can we clear cap? Yes, any team can ... Can or will it happen? Not a chance.
No GM is going to help us clear cap unfortunately (Thank Otis). No GM is going to give us expiring contracts/players... but yes, if we somehow got rid of Hedo, BBD, Duhon, and J-Rich for expiring contracts... I THINK we could outright sign Deron and re-sign Howard (or maybe not now that I think about it, since we might pay Ryan 8 mil).
Either way... Deron isn't coming to Orlando... because A) We don't have the cap B) It's nearly impossible to clear enough cap C) Deron doesn't want to come here, he'd rather stay in Brooklyn or go to Dallas D) Howard wants to go to Brooklyn or Dallas rather than recruit Deron to come here.
For one, Deron never said he wouldn't want to live in Sunny Florida. Only said he likes Dallas and New Jersey.
Second, it would be extremely hard to clear enough cap room to sign Deron, but not impossible.
Can trade JRich for a 2nd round draft pick.
Can trade Meer for a 2nd Round Draft Pick
Can trade Duhon and future 1st for a 2nd rounder.
Can trade BBD for a 2nd rounder.
There would be teams out there that would take these players for a 2nd rounder. Those alone would clear enough cap room to sign Deron outright. The Meer for 2nd rounder may be the hardest to move.

hornets just want young pieces and expiring contracts. they have 2 lottery picks in the draft and are in full rebuild. i would love to get ariza from them.
anyone remember the kaman for iggy talks last year? kaman has value. that said its going to take more than jj clark and orton to get ellis. anderson would be on the move. would golden state like ariza?

if youre going to trade dwight, its crazy, but trading him to gsw for ellis and a bunch of picks could be better than trading him to nj. I mean, we all know he isnt going to sign with Golden State, so when he leaves, they won't be any good, making the picks better as opposed to Nj, who would probably keep him and deron and be a lot better. Plus, you never know, after we ditch our bad contracts and get Monta, maybe dwight would come back and sign with us

I thought the same thing a few pages back... but then this hit me
Bensational wrote:isn't Golden State's pick is owed to Utah if it's out of the top 8? Dwight + Curry might just get them there.
AhaAha wrote:...
Golden State's own 2012 1st round pick to Utah via New Jersey (top 7 protected in the 2012 Draft, top 7 protected in 2013, and top 6 protected in the 2014 Draft)
means if it isn't top 7 Utah will get their pick and we will get 2014....
But if it is top 7 we will have to wait even longer....
So however their season ends we couldn't get any first round pick before 2014 of GS
So I passed on that idea

You can't just trade players for draft picks unless that team has enough room under the cap to absorb the full salary basically, which almost no teams do. IND does, however. Cmon....you've been on the board long enough to know this by now haven't you? There are like fewer than 6 teams who could absorb JRich, Meer or BBD. I highly doubt you would find 4 teams willing to take those contracts. It would be more likely somebody might take one of them using a TPE they have (like the Lakers taking BBD with their TPE for example). I actually think JRich could be moved to IND. So, no, it isn't impossible, but what you seemed to be suggesting was you could just dump any of those guys to any team for a draft pick, which certainly isn't allowed.

I never said it was impossible... I was just explaining to the-diesel that it's just "extremely difficult" to do, as you said... you're idea of trading bad contracts for draft picks is just as difficult as my explanation for trading for expiring contracts in order to clear cap... no GM in their right mind would do that... just like no GM in their right mind would trade expiring contracts either. You're right, it's "not impossible", and I said "any team can clear cap". But will it happen? No. It just won't. No one will do either suggestions we made (trade for all expiring contracts [mine] or all draft picks [yours]).
As for the Deron thing... okay, he didn't outwardly state he wouldn't consider coming to Orlando... but he isn't exactly going out of his way either to make his intentions known. The chances of Deron coming to Orlando is really slim imo. He has a greater chance of going to Dallas or staying in Brooklyn than coming here.

Well, its possible to trade for TPEs too, so i think Jameer can be moved to the Lakers (they have a huge TPE: 8.9mi).

I know for sure the Lakers would gladly take on Jameer (who won't opt out after this season) as their PG, they need an upgrade badly... maybe a combination of all 3 suggestions (mine, BMP, and yours)... trade for an expiring, a draft pick, and a TPE separately/respectively? ... Find a middle ground between all 3 extremes? That will get the job done to clear cap, and is more likely to happen. (but still difficult)

Correct, although they have such a huge luxury tax penalty that I doubt they would unless it was part of a deal to get Dwight or some other superstar...as they had already said they didn't want Beasley for that reason.

Uhh ??? I don't get how what you said in your post above attains to this quote of mine you replied to. I don't agree with BMP btw (the person you replied to). I was just making an initial point (to the-diesel) that it's difficult to do any sort of scenario to clear enough cap to sign Deron this summer (my example being trading for expiring contracts... I never made mention of trading for draft picks until BMP brought it up).

I agree, and you are correct about what you said...
My point remains too (I was talking about expiring contracts as an example to clear cap, not draft picks), because I never said we should trade for draft picks in any part of my original post (in reply to the-diesel). That was BMP saying that.
