if youre going to trade dwight, its crazy, but trading him to gsw for ellis and a bunch of picks could be better than trading him to nj. I mean, we all know he isnt going to sign with Golden State, so when he leaves, they won't be any good, making the picks better as opposed to Nj, who would probably keep him and deron and be a lot better. Plus, you never know, after we ditch our bad contracts and get Monta, maybe dwight would come back and sign with us

I thought the same thing a few pages back... but then this hit me

isn't Golden State's pick is owed to Utah if it's out of the top 8? Dwight + Curry might just get them there.

Golden State's own 2012 1st round pick to Utah via New Jersey (top 7 protected in the 2012 Draft, top 7 protected in 2013, and top 6 protected in the 2014 Draft)

means if it isn't top 7 Utah will get their pick and we will get 2014....
But if it is top 7 we will have to wait even longer....
So however their season ends we couldn't get any first round pick before 2014 of GS

So I passed on that idea

But if they don't have a top 7 pick this year, that means it goes to utah right?

So we could trade for their 2013 pick, which in this scenario would be potentially better than this years pick

So basically you're taking the idea of trading Dwight + filler to GS for Ellis/Lee/pick, and flipping that GS draft pick in another trade?... did I understand that correctly? I just want to make sure.

You had seemed to agree with him though (or at least to using draft picks as part of the cap-clearing strategy), and I wanted to clarify the ongoing discussion that draft picks can only be traded for if the team receiving the player can basically absorb the full salary under the cap.

No... I didn't agree with him... re-read it, sorry if it sounded that way. I said that's difficult to do as well (and your point is that it is impossible to do so under CBA guidelines, so in a way, you and I are in agreement). The whole point I was making is that No GM in their right mind would do either of those things even IF they could (trade expiring contracts or draft picks) for crappy contracts. You know what I mean? I mean what GM would trade expiring contracts or draft picks (just imagine if they could trade picks, which you mentioned, they can't) for our crappy bad contracts. It's laughable. That's all.

I realize that its top 7 protected so if gsw are bad enough utah gets the 2013, but i dont think that gsw are going to have a top 7 pick this year, right now i think they have a better record than every eastern conference lotttery team

why are people mentioning clearing capspace as if its even an option anymore. don't u think otis would of kept bass(4mil expiring) and let jrich walk (14mil off the books) if that was the route he was wanting to take.

we are going to try a trade and otis may find out that not many gms "like this team" as much as he does.

I don't think you can trade a draft pick solely... I was wondering if you can package the pick with a player (like BBD). I'm not sure where GS will finish this season... all I know is that they aren't making the playoffs... so I'm not sure if they will have a top 7 or out of top 7 pick in this year's draft... I don't think I would take a chance on it though.

Means if Utah gets their 2012/13 pick ..they can trade us the 2014/15 pick
