Fans fascinated with these types of signings are always interesting to me. It's like the fans that were dying to have Tracy McGrady here after he hadn't played injury free ball in years. They almost never work out.
We're not interested in high risk right now. If it's high risk we're after then we may as well play one of the rookies right now. We're pretty sure that wouldn't work out either, so what's the difference?
Mitch saw Arenas work out. Obviously if the guy impressed Mitch as someone who had made it all the way back, he probably would have been on the roster by now. Top it off, I don't even see Arenas as a PG. That's what's ridiculous about it. He doesn't even seem to meet the requirements.
I believe that the FO is sufficiently persuaded now (if they weren't before) that the Lakers can have a very good second half and contend for a title with the current core which is something I haven't been entirely sold on but could certainly live with.
I'd be very surprised indeed if they simply let the Odom TPE expire without use under circumstances where they have an opportunity to enhance the squad with a quality player or two and make a run at a title.
I was against the TMAC signing but I'm for the Arenas singing. Arenas is a lot younger, a lot less injury prone, and more of a distributor than TMAC. It's not the same thing.
