Drew Brees is

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Tue Mar 6, 2012 4:40 pm

Drew Brees was hit with the franchise tag by the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, despite having made it clear that that's not what he wanted. So what happens now? Well, according to CBSSports.com's Rapid Reports, Brees gets really mad.

"Drew Brees is "livid" about being franchise tagged and not receiving a long-term contract, according to WIST-AM in New Orleans. The radio station cites sources in the Brees camp that he will not sign the franchise tag deal. Brees and the Saints have until July 15 to hammer out a long-term deal."

My two immediate reactions:

1) Of course he's livid.

2) He'll get over it.

The franchise tag means that Brees will remain a Saint for a one year at a pre-determined salary number. In bad news for Brees, the number is calculated differently now than it has been in years past. Last year, a quarterback with the franchise tag made the average of the top five highest-paid players at his position -- in 2011, it was over $16 million. This year, with the new calculations, it's $14.4 million. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutd ... 43713.html

People forget Tom Benson is one of the worst owners in the NFL. He's just slimy. Remember during Bree's Marino locker room speech after MNF he and his slimy wife forced their way into the middle of his speech so they could get TV time?

And people have the nerve to talk about players showing no loyalty. The Colts who would probably be in Mexico City if it wasn't for Manning have been playing the politics of cutting him all year and now the Saints are playing Brees. Shameful.

I'd be pissed too. I'm negotiating for 25 mil and I get smacked down to 14.5

I think it's time for the team to part ways with Brees. He's not going to be entirely committed to an organization that does this to him.

Brees needs to be reasonable, if the Saints gave him what he wants (which is 23 mil a year) we can't sign Colston, Meachem (Or Moss), or Carl Nicks (His All-Pro Guard)..Hope Brees likes throwing to Graham and Moore cause that's all he would have..then again, he'll be lucky to get a throw off because Jahri Evans would be the only one blocking.

As a Saints fan. Brees deserves what he wants cause he is the face of our Franchise but c'mon. We won't have any money left to sign anyone else.

Plus, what the Saints have offered is going to make him the highest paid QB in the NFL and it includes a 30 million dollar signing bonus. C'mon now...
