He's cheap, but you get what you pay for. He has no business being a head coach.

Well I know Smart makes mistakes . However he has far better control over his players than ll other coaches IMO that have been head coach since Adelman. I would love a J.V.G or Sloan type coach however with the huge difference I see in Cousins and the overall team performances in terms of seeing big improvements I think Smart deserves the extra year to coach our team .

That said if we are not a playoff team next season or right their in contention for a playoff spot I would have no problem with him not being coach .

The Maloofs are just giddy and would say all manner of things now since they've gotten the deal to go through

I don't have a problem with this given how much Cousins has grown in Smarts' short tenure.

We don't need a poor man's Don Nelson returning. What has small ball ever won? His substitution patterns are ridiculous at best. There are better coaches out there. Smart look good because Westphal was so bad.

At this point what choice do you have. The team has responded, that's enough after the complete disaster that was Paul Westphal this year. Don't firmly believe in his x's and o's ability or necessarily his talent recognition, but you have to give him a stinking training camp at least.

No problem with this.

He seems to get feedback when teaching the game, we need a teacher right now. He has the boys playing hard, they also seem to trust him and he sends positive vibes without bs excuses.

Deserves next year.

Now once we get a more talented roster, you either give Smart a shot which I think he deserves or you bring in a high caliber coach.

This is kind of how I feel. I'm not super stoked on him as a coach, but he has done some very helpful things.

He earned it.

When we reach the next level, he will be replaced. so far, we still need to take more steps in order to reach that next level and he seems like the guy to help us and our young kids reach it.

I don't like how he treat Jimmer Fredette. Should have more PT.

I think it's way too early to make the commitment on Smart. I don't understand why we make rash decisions in the middle of the season. Let him finish the complete season and THEN evaluate his progress.

I like Smart and what he has done for the Kings so far (in Cousins' development in particular) but this is pretty premature to say the least.

Some may think it's too early, but he is officially the Kings coach next season.

Keith Smart will return next season as head coach of the Sacramento Kings. The team announced today they’ve exercised their second-year team option.

“Keith has done a terrific job of taking control of the direction of the team,” said Petrie, according to an official press release sent by the team. “He is active, engaged and working hard to develop our young players along with a complimentary style of play.”

Again, I don't understand why we are committing in Smart early. Wait until the season is over and see what he's built. And potentially look for other coaches that's available at that time. Maybe one was fired, relieved, resigned etc etc i.e. McMillan. By that way, we can see if exercising Smart's option is the wise move.

I can't find his salary. Anyone know what we are paying him?
