Trade Deadline Thread - 1 day remaining
It's in sight.
Before last year's trade deadline, most of us Jazz fans were confident the Jazz would be standing pat. The Jazz community was still getting used to our world being flipped upside down by Sloan's abrupt retirement. Before we even had a chance to get used to the post-Sloan Jazz, the Jazz fan's world was, once again, flipped upside down. You'd think your world being flipped upside down a second time would simply make things normal again, but no. Nothing was normal. Our franchise point guard was sent away. We traded our present for a future.
And that's where we stand right now.
The Jazz fan community is pretty much split in half. Those who believe we still have a present, and those who believe we need to cherish our future.
From what I've noticed, most Jazz fans are on "Team Future". They want nothing more than playing time for our lotto pick quartet. They understand our team cannot compete with this current roster, and would rather watch our young guys lose due to rookie mistakes than watch our veterans lose with nothing to blame but their own mistakes. As far as the trade deadline goes, most Team Future fans want one of Paul or Al traded to make room for Derrick or Enes. They're also in support of a Raja or CJ trade to make room for Gordon and Alec. If the trade deadline comes and goes, and we still have all of Paul, Al, Raja, and CJ, Team Future will probably rage. We'll get a lot of people who will insult the Jazz O, and they'll probably stop posting for a few weeks.
On the flipside of Team Future, we have "Team Present". These are fans that see potential in our mix of youth and veterans. We may not be winning a championship any time soon, but getting playoff experience for the young guys is always a good idea. We have great talent in Al Jefferson and amazing value in Paul Millsap. Getting rid of non-problem players just so a young player can start just doesn't make sense. Our young guys may not be starting, but they're mostly getting okay minutes. If trade deadlines comes and goes, and we stand pat, Team Present wins Trade Deadline Day.
So which side are you? Who stays, and who goes?

Re: Trade Deadline Thread - 9 days remaining
Can I be a fan of progressing with our "future" stars and letting the rookies play and making trades for the "future" but not actually be on "team future". Was never a fan of Twilight and this is too similar.......
Locke made some comment of a matthews/felton trade for harris/cj. not sure if that would work, but it would improve our backcourt substantially in my opinion. Might not necessarily give burks more minutes with Wes coming back, but would get us a couple of younger guys in there.

I don't want to be in the position of competing for the last couple of playoff spots for years to come.We need to use our veterans to accumulate future assets that will improve the team long term. I f we do make the playoffs as the eighth seed we will lose our draft choice (to Minnesota) and may be left with no pick in this draft. This would mean another year of the same type of results.

It's top-14 protected this year, top-12 protected next year.

Personally I'd like to package some of our veterans along with 1 or both of our picks for a young star caliber player. Someone who can be our future along with our 4 young guys.

I don't see that happening. Teams don't trade young star players for the pu pu platter.

Just remembered our pick belongs to Minny so we can't trade it anyway. Oh well.
Wish we could pull something like the GS pick + pieces for Stephen Curry. The PG prospects in this draft are far from a sure thing.

Basically the same for me, though Al and 'Sap are almost a 1A/1B to me at this point. One of them needs to go and I'd prefer to trade Jefferson because 'Sap's contract is much much better, I understand that teams would rather have Paul.
If we can trade one of our bigs and CJ for some decent return, I'd be pleased.

Trade Deadline Thread - 9 days remaining
KOC will prove me wrong in a couple of days, but I doubt we do much at the deadline. I think draft day is where the next few years of the franchise will be determined in large part. I'm thinking we will be either moving up in the top 5 via trade of our better pick and absorbing a semi-bad contract, yet decent player, or trading both picks and taking back a good young talent still on a rookie deal...

I've had a similar train of thought, but when I think of young quality players on rookie contacts i don't see many point guards. And that has to be the focus doesn't it. So what young pgs do you see as possible return? I'd say the real options at pg are knight, Collison, Augustin, bledsoe, norris cole.
Perhaps the jazz go a different direction and trade for an established pg a la jameer, calderon, felton, mo.
Anyone else come to mind?

I don't think any of those guys are clearly better than Devin Harris; at least the Devin Harris we've seen recently. I wouldn't give up additional assets to get them.

If the Jazz org is serious about making a playoff push, I would not be surprised to see some moves. However, I'm in the future camp.

I think young guys should be playing alot.
I think KOC dumps CJ for a 2nd round pick and thats all the jazz do.
My prefernce is dump Big AL, Bell, Harris, and CJ for anything you can get.

I think we'll just sit on our hands and look to make deals next year when all our trade chips become expiring contracts.
If we move them this year we probably dont' get as much return.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Trade Deadline Thread - 9 days remaining
I've been combing the headlines pretty regularly lately looking for any indication of a Jazz trade or trade talk. I'm kinda anxious a trade happens and think the Jazz will do something. However I am in the present category for the Jazz and I think the Jazz organization is too. I want the Jazz to win and think they can develop the young guys this way too.
I just don't see how tanking a season teaches the younger guys how to be all stars. This one lesson has ruined many a players potential IMO. It's the inner drive above everything else to win that is developed, makes and develops a Hall of Fame'er. Hence Stockton and Malone kept that drive to win in them and it created two Hall of famer'ers. The other agrument is that it takes too darn long to develop a player. Look at Hayward..... is he even close to an all-star yet. No. But can he be..... Yes. So just to make a losing season to get a better draft pick I don't think is the answer. Besides there are other ways to get that high draft pick through trades and still make the playoffs, and still develop your younger players.
Call me crazy but I want both!!
But if not both I'm in the "present". (if it is present it probably will be later too
)

Re: Trade Deadline Thread - 9 days remaining
I'm in the "Team Future" camp. Unfortunately, I don't see us doing much or anything at the deadline. I'd love to trade Al, but I can't see why any team that's watched him on a semi-regular basis would want him for the money he's getting paid. Millsap probably has a lot more value, given that he has a more reasonable contract and a game that's more conducive to winning, so there's probably a higher chance that he'll get traded. I wouldn't love that, but it would still be nice to open up some minutes for Favors and Kanter. Regardless, I doubt we trade him before the deadline.
If nothing else, I really hope we trade C.J. First, I'm sick of waiting for him to become consistent. It's about time to admit that it's just not going to happen. At least not here. Second, this five man wing rotation we've got going on isn't good for anybody. Not in the present or the future. If we could get a second round pick for C.J., I'd jump on that.
If we could trade Devin for something of value, I'd support that, but, at this point, I think trading him should be less of a priority than trading one of our bigs or C.J. He's not in anybody's way and he's starting to play pretty well. I can live with him as a stopgap.
