We immediately had a 8 man rotation where everyone was averaging double figures. That quickly went away as Gilbert seemed to gain 20 pounds and the team seemed to fall apart. Replacing Duhon and Big Baby (maybe Q as well) with average players would do wonders for this team.

I'd disagree with this. During that win streak, our team didn't practice enough to learn any plays so they were just PLAYING ball; running like an organized playground game. Once the team practiced a few times and Stan forced them to run our set plays, half-court playoff ball, we started to do worse.

Respectfully disagree, Stans system isn't as awful as some pretend it is. Year after year he produces a winning record. What happened during that 9 game was, yes our team was just playing basketball but we didnt start losing ONLY when Stan implemented his gameplan we also started losing when teams with structured defenses figured us out and started shutting down our playground style of basketball. You cant bring playground basketball against well coached NBA teams for very long.

I agree and wasn't trying to elude to the fact that we have a awful system. I was just stating what I felt was the reason for our win streak at that time. It was wasn't the upgraded backup PG or PF position. We were free-lancing and teams didn't know what to expect. A combo of schemes going in, players thinking too much to make the right play, and teams figuring us out, ended our hype.

Teams that like to run while playing Ball can be fun to watch and can go on streaks in a game. But, they can also be easily shut down by good transition defense with a ball controlling team with a good half court offensive team with well designed plays to slow down the game.

FYI. teams that just run and just PLAY Ball never win championships. Teams that play defense with great half court sets with well designed plays DO win championships.

my argument isn't meant to be taken as a general statement that all teams that freestyle on the court are gonna be tough to guard/ figure out or that structure kills momentum. I'm purely speaking about the team we had after that trade and what we witness during that specific winning streak.

Thing is, most, if not all, coaches give the players some freedom... not Stan... Stan micromanages everything, and that's what sucks...

@BQRMagic: Vegas' odds on the NBA trade deadline: 1/1 that the Magic trade Dwight on or before it, 5/7 that they don't.

What about 3 point shooting teams that play elite defense?

Magic in 2009 came close though. They were borderline elite defense except at PG.

I agree that this team does need a little more freedom to move the ball up tempo at times to catch teams off guard when things are not working right in the half court offense or to wear down the other team.

i can't believe otis was allowed to bury us even furthur with davis and jrich's 4 year deals. since the summer of 2010 we havent added a single asset to this team while losing all of ours: duhon q davis jrich turk are all untradable players that take up 30 million of our capspace

What are you talking about? The Mavs team doesn't consist of jumpshooters. They have Jason Kidd who can create for others.

Any chance D12 signs with Brooklyn in the offseason allowing the Nets to keep Brook Lopez, Marshon Brooks and any other assets they would have had to give up in a trade?

They won't be able to afford to keep Lopez and sign both Howard and Williams.
