Pau Gasol addresses selfishness/trade rumors

Post#1 » by Gek » Thu Mar 8, 2012 4:55 pm

It's in spanish: http://www.nbamaniacs.com/noticias/pau- ... e-egoismo/

"(There is) a lack of concentration, over-confidence and a certain level of selfishness in general. I'm not a person or a selfish player, but we have to move the ball more, and we have to look for more team play, because we have enough talent to use different players," Gasol said a disgruntled Catalan public radio.

It's going to take a group effort of Pau, Fisher and Brown to get Kobe to play a more team game, in my opinion. This is a good start. Although I'm not sure if Pau will be around after the trade deadline, there's no doubt in my mind that Kobe respects him as a player and peer (or as much of a peer as Kobe thinks he has).

He's a 100% right. Kobe is the biggest freaking ball hog in the game. When ever he looks for his teamamtes and makes that extra pass we do well. He forces too much shots and he needs to realize he's not shooting as well as a he use to.

This is getting ugly... our team is melting right before our very eyes. I don't care to point fingers, now I know this team is done. These comments are becoming increasingly common and I think it sadly may end with Pau going elsewhere, which sucks because Kobe DOES need have better shot selection. It's not about how many shots, usually my issue is with the shots he does take. It seems at times there's no offense being run just an improv session. This is the price we pay for Kobe, some great legendary qualities and one major flaw down the road... he'll never understand the term age. I know Kobe's shot ain't fallin like it used to, a combo of high mileage and a wrist injury will do that, which is why for now he has to trust his big until he's back to form and ready for a playoff push! It's also INCREDIBLY frustrating to have to hear Pau repeatedly saying comments like this, you know this doesn't sit well with the team. You can't make comments like that and not expect to create some heat in the locker room. Then again I'm not a fan of players publicly saying such comments.

He's 100% right

However,I wish he'd just tell the man the truth in his face for once...last year happened the same thing,Pau unsatisfied, bitching to the media about touches and throwing subtle jabs
Grow a pair,go tell the man your opinion(which is 100% valid IMO)face to face....I'm fed up with the pussying and subtle jabs through the media(Mike Brown too)

You ever heard Kobe complaining to the media about our All-Star PF scoring 13 ppg on 40% FG in the playoffs last year?Nope ,didn't think so...he always defended him, even said in the exit interview that Bynum has to fall in line after him and Gasol and supposedly told Howard the same(not sure of this, but the rumours said so)...always said how great of a player he is

Whatever problems you might have, just solve them through closed door
The last thing this team needs is more drama

The only Laker you can count on to bring 100% every game is Kobe. You don't bring effort, you don't deserve to even play. Someone tell Pau to stop calling others selfish and look in the mirror. He is so sad and hurt about the trade situation that he's all over the media and whining about it. Kobe had his back and now he's going to pull this? Get real Pau. Kobe might be selfish on the court, but you're being selfish off it. And its effecting your entire team. I yell "pass the ball" many times at my TV when Kobe should be passing many, many times but I yell "WTF ARE YOU DOING?!" twice as many times at these losers like Barnes, Murphy, Fisher, etc.

The Lakers have TWO STARTERS with PER below 9...9! And when LA puts that Blake, Goudelock, Barnes, Murphy and Bynum/Pau out there...only Barnes and Bynum/Pau have PER above 10. That is just sickening. Not trying to make excuses for Kobe's ball hog possessions but at this point it seems to be a better possession when Kobe takes a well defended jumper than when Fisher or Metta shoot wide open shots. When 2 players are that bad, the defense can lay off them and cause problems for the others. A lot of teams have 1 guy like that, LA has at least 2 on the court at any given time.

Lamar broke down after the deal flopped. Pau has been a complaining little kid since then. All Kobe has done is go to work. Kobe goes 8-23 in a win and no one cares. 8-23 in a loss? Suddenly he's a cancer to the team.

If Pau is so bitter that he just wants the Lakers to get the trade over with...then do it. Ship him to Charlotte and make him realize that if he played with 100% effort, his numbers would be better and maybe LA wouldn't have even moved him. One day he's "got to be a professional" after the trade got killed and now this? Booker OWNED him on the boards. Kevin Seraphin KILLED him in the post.

Pau is 100% right about Kobe needing to pass more. But someone needs to tell Pau to leave his female parts at home and bring it all game. Kobe has the fire all game. Pau only has the fire when he dunks. I understand the Kobe ball hogging is more than just one game. But let's stop blaming the Wizards loss on Kobe and start looking at how lazy LA looked in the 3rd quarter. THey lost because of a complete lack of effort, not Kobe going 9-31.

Pau Gasol addresses selfishness/trade rumors

Pau should say it in his face, instead of talking about it in the media.

No clue what Kobe's problem is, but these last 2 games he's been incredibly selfish on the court. Whether this is something petty like not wanting Bynum to be the "man" or if this is something else like trying to send management a message to make a move who knows. Either way it's made watching the Lakers a exercise in frustration instead of a enjoyable experience.

Asking Kobe not to be selfish. Good luck with that.

54 points on 57 shots for kobe these last two games.
49 points on 24 shots for Bynum during that span.

Heck even when it's slapping him in the face, he won't change, so Gasol might as well not waste his time commenting on it.

How you know he didn't say it in his face??

Paul is 100% correct. He helped bring in rings and the Laker's front office is being unprofessional by not at the very least communicating with him regarding this situation.

^Lakers management brought in Brown and let go of Shaw without discussing it with anyone. They are clearly doing things their own way now that Phil is gone.

What's ironic is that Pau Gasol isn't even the problem and is telling the truth, but will probably be traded anyway.

lets just ship pau to houston already. pau and fisher or blake (would rather trade fish but we know lal will never do such a thing) for dragic, martin, and scola.

move kobe to sf.

Dragic/Blake or Fish/Goud
Martin/Kobe/MWP
Kobe/MWP/Barnes
Scola/MWP/Barnes/Roberts
Bynum/Scola/Murphy

houston will be legit with
Lowry/Blake or FIsh

I thought Kobe played not as bad vs Det. He realised that he is missing his shots in the 1st 3 qrt, so he changed it up and relied on the bigs more.

However he is horrible vs the Wiz. 1/10 in the 4 qrt is not acceptable at all.

I've had fleeting thoughts where I wished the Kobe era would end in LA, even if it meant that the team would probably suck for a couple years.

This season started out on a **** note and it's not gotten much better. The highlight of the whole year will probably be that win over Miami, which is nothing.
