New York Giants Off-Season Thread

Post#1 » by Stannis » Wed Feb 8, 2012 12:12 am

First, try to keep as much of your current players as possible.

Free agents for the Giants.
WR - Mario Manningham
- Confirmed Gone - Signed with 49ers

Tackle - Kareem McKenzie
CBs - Terrell Thomas and Aaron Ross
- Aaron Ross is gone
DE - Dave Tollefson
Punter - Steve Weatherford
DT - Rocky Bernard,
Safety - Deon Grant
LBs - Jonathan Goff and Chase Blackburn
Guard - Stacy Andrews
QB - David Carr
DT - Jimmy Kennedy
OL - Tony Ugoh
DBs - Derrick Martin and Justin Tryon
WR/KR - Devin Thomas
PR/CB - Will Blackmon
RB - Jacobs
- Confirmed gone - Released

-I definitely want to see Manningham back on the team. Not just because he made that catch but because he will be a very good third receiver.
-Hopefully, Goff can get healthy, Giants need some help with linebackers.
-Chase Blackburn will be cool to have again.
-I can do without Aaron Ross. I watched him get burned way to many times. Terrell Thomas would be great, if healthy. If Giants do not plan on signing Terrell Thomas, another CB, or draft another CB, they will have to resign Aaron Ross.
-I think Kareem McKenzie is a must, unless the Giants plan on only drafting linemen this year.
-Steve Weatherford, bring this guy back. He is a terrific punter.
-Deon Grant, brought a lot to this team. Resign him.

Only down side with winning a Super Bowl and signing several players to one-year deals, is those players' market price is going to skyrocket.

I say if the resignings go to plan, try drafting offensive linemen should be top priority, then linebackers. They need to look at some Tight Ends as well, with Beckham and Ballard out with torn ACLs, you have too.

Osi Umenyiora - He seems interested in helping the Giants repeat, especially for the fact that he got injured in 2008 when he Giants went for a repeat. I can see him staying if the Giants give him a raise for a 1 yr deal.

Brandon Jacobs - Not worth 4.5 mil, I think he is done. Giants can find a power back in the draft.

Kareem McKenzie - Old and he is done. How many sacks did this guy give up in the playoffs. He had a near 4mil per year this year.

Mario Manningham - I can see teams throwing money at him. But I want to see the Giants keep that core.

Aaron Ross - I see him leaving, he has two rings. He won't get that much money because he did struggle throughout the year. But he also played well sometimes also. Very inconsistent. I also believe in Prince Amukamara.

Terell Thomas - Going to be hard for him to find a team, I see him coming back for a 1 yr deal.

Dave Tollefson - He may get money somewhere else, the guy did have 5 sacks this year.

Rocky Bernard - Giants get back Marvin Austin, Bye!

Chase Blackburn - Keep him, he likes it here and is a serviceable LB.

Jonathan Goff - He can probably come back for cheap.

David Carr - He can continue his career as Eli's backup.

Devin Thomas - Special Teams specialists he can stay.

Giants are definitely drafting a Tackle this year. Diehl and McKenzie gave up a lot of sacks, and Will Beatty is not the answer at LT.

Snee is the only serviceable O lineman. I still think they should keep what they can on the O line, that way they do not use majority of their picks in that area.

Defiantly want to see Osi and Jacobs back. Jacobs is one of my all time favorites.

I think the running game not there this season because of the O line, not because of the backs.

Still might have to draft a back.

I don't think David Baas is worth the contract he was given, yeah he was hurt during the season. But when healthy he is supposed to be the guy who would open up the middle for the Giants running game. Bradshaw and Jacobs both love to go to the outside and improving the tackles is going to help.

Yes, Baas was a bad signing. However, O'hara got an injury and I do not think they drafted a serviceable center. I understand the signing though. They needed someone.

We are waaaay to close to the red in cap-space. Jerry Reese has already said that the team will look differently this upcoming season. Thats understandable.

Number 1 priority is O-Line. The Giants will not resign Kareem McKenzie. Look for improvements there in the first round. Will Beaty hasn't amounted to much as he cant stay on the field. The interior of the Line looks solid with Snee and Bass. Boothe is not a good guard i don't think that should be his natural position. I hope to god they leave Diehl at LT. (Needs RT, LT)

Number 2 Priority depth at the TE position. We lost both of our TE's in the super bowl to ACL injuries. Time to revamp the position so that Eli can have a good security blanket. Im hoping the Giants draft a solid TE and also pick up Greg Olsen. That would be solid! Its time for the G-men to part ways with Travis Beckum. He hasn't amounted to much. (Resign Ballard to vet minimum).

Number 3 Priority address the CB issue. Lets see where T. Thomas is with his ACL and get Ross back for a good price. People like to talk crap about Ross but he has been decent opposite Webster. Even Revis gets burned once in a while. The man adds depth.

Number 4 priority is to add some LBs. I love Blackburn, but we need some stability at MLB. OLBs are fine with Kiwi and Boley. if Chase can do the job then we are complete with that core.

Number 5 priority is the WR situation. I hope they pay CRUZZZZ every penny he deserves. If they can get Manningham for a reasonable price they will, but its likely that someone will overpay. Not a huge loss we are stacked at the position.

Number 6 priority is to find RB's. Bye bye Jacobs you've had a good career with NYG but its time to go. Bradshaw cant stay healthy. Gmen will draft RB in the later rounds.

oh last but not least resign the punter (STEVE WEATHERFORD) all giants fans know the real value of a real punter like him.

There won't be many teams willing to give Osi what he wants. Yes 12.5 sacks in 13 games but he also is not the main pass rusher on this D-Line. Let's see him as the main pass rusher getting double teamed. He got his sacks in the nascar package that featured Osi, Tuck, Kiwi, JPP.

They should also think about reworking the contract for Antrel Rolle, he is due 21 mil over the next 3 years. And he is not even the best safety on his team.

Peyton Manning will not Redskins, no Eli Vs. Peyton twice a

Post#13 » by Stannis » Fri Mar 9, 2012 12:24 am

Looks like Peyton Manning will not join the Redskins:

I kind of wanted him to go there. Watching him Vs. Eli twice a year would have been classic.

Tuck does not want him in the NFC East.

Goodbye Brandon Jacobs, when his mind was in it he was a raging bull. But on other days he was the tip-toe queen.

Giants will probably draft a RB cause no way DJ Ware is a 2nd string RB. Who knows maybe there is something in Da'Rell Scott.

Ah man, hands down on of my favorite Giants. He has been with the Giants, especially for the first Super Bowl win. I doubt he goes back to that raging bull who runs through the linebackers.

Looks like the Giants won't have to look far for a TE. Kevin Boss likely to return to the Giants, he is still due 2 million from the Raiders, so it looks like he will come back for cheap. Especially with his production from last year his value is low.

With Julius Peppers and Mario Williams all signing 100 mil dollar deals, just imagine what JPP will command when his contract is up.

Goodbye to Aaron Ross

Post#19 » by Stannis » Tue Mar 20, 2012 10:54 pm

Aaron Ross is a goner.

Not sure what Terrell Thomas is going to look like, but I am sure he will be better than Ross at the least. The Giants still look weak at the CB. Webster is good, Prince did decent, but we are not sure how Terrell Thomas is going to look like.

Goodbye Aaron Ross

The good thing with Terrell Thomas is that his contract is safe. If he gets hurt again they can get out of his contract after the 1st year.

I will give Prince a off-season to heal and go through training camp before I can judge him. After all the last bad 1st round draft pick the Giants had that I can think of is Ron Dayne.
