Hell to the no.

Three first rounders and a high second for a guy who has never thrown a pass in the NFL?

Insanity.

This team has so many holes. Drafting QBs is such a crapshoot. This could seriously blow up... But then again, after the last 20 years, I'm not sure anyone would care.

You down with RG3?

Post#4 » by W. Unseld » Sat Mar 10, 2012 4:34 am

Totally agree with long suffering; not to mention that you wait until draft day bc over the next 6 weeks he could get hurt. At a minimum you can do more analysis as he goes through the process. Only the Skins are this freaking dumb & worst yet there are some very good qbs coming out next year.

Only the Skins would have been dumb enough to give up this much, this early. Not to mention once Manning signs that gets rid of one more bidder, ditto for Matt Flynn.

I like RG3. I think he has a great shot at being the real deal, a true franchise QB. And if he is... then yeah, he's worth the price and then some.

Of course, this is the Redskins we're talking about, so he'll probably be a bust. ;)

You guys can whine all you want. RG3 and Luck are the two best QB prospect in the past 10 years. Screw next years' draft. Ask the Giants if they gave up too much to move up two spots and take Eli Manning.

+1
Skins gave up a ton, BUT they still have $50M of cap space. All FA acqusitions have been solid to excellent with Shannallen. Skins have never had a franchise QB in my lifetime. If he's as good as Shanny thinks he is I'd do this trade over and over again.

Sorry to break the bad news.

The Denver Post reports free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning will be in Denver on Friday night to visit with Broncos officials, including vice president John Elway.

Sources also have told the Post that the highly coveted former Indianapolis Colt will visit the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins after leaving Denver. He reportedly wants to make a decision by Tuesday, when the market opens for other free agents, among them Packers backup Matt Flynn.

Technically, it's swapping picks, two firsts and a second; not that that makes the price any less steep.

My thoughts: When you've had so little success with free agents as Snyder has, it might be a good idea to hold on to your draft picks and build that way.

I really wanted RG3, but this is overpaying in the worst way.

Yeah, I think going for Matt Flynn would have made more sense than giving up the draft picks they did.

I'm totally down with this trade. I think RG3 can be a franchise changer, and the Redskins obviously agree because they gave up so much to get him.

1st round picks are overrated to an extent. We've had so many these past years, but still weren't going any where. Landry was a 1st round pick, Orakpo was a 1st round pick, Kerrigan was a 1st round pick, but where did we go with them without having a quarterback? Nowhere. We needed a franchise QB in the worst way.

I don't think we overpaid in the slightest.

And why is everyopne saying we lost 3 1st rounders? We only gave up two, because we're just swapping this year's pick.

And look at the Colts next 2nd, 1st and 1st picks after they took Manning.

Jerome Pathon (2nd, 1998)
Edge James (1st 1999)
Rob Morris (1st 2000)

1 impact player.

We NEED a QB. We NEED a guy who will lead this team for years. This was the right move, and I agree with it 100%.

I’ll be rooting for RG3 this year. I’m a HAPPY Skins fan.

Unless the Colts pick RG3. In which case I’ll be very confused. I mean…Luck is a goofy guy.

Can we just use the Skins forum from now on - so we don't have to look at 2 different boards to see what everyone thinks?

cosign.

1st off I wanted RG3 more than anyone. When I 1st heard about the trade I was bittersweet because we got the guy I wanted but we gave up more than anyone expected. Then very quickly though, I felt that its not all that much. I say the same thing as you, that everyone keeps saying 3 first round picks but its really just 2. Lets say that he ends up being an elite top notch QB.

Some might say that you cant say that which is true but if youre trading all of that and picking him with the 2nd pick then its because you think he will be that. So if its Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, etc...... would you trade 2 first round picks for them right off the top of your head? Hell Yeah. Then you say would you add a 2nd round pick to get them? Hell yeah, espically if you have a ton of cap space. Its a gamble but its one worth taking.

He's a big time prospect, who is probably the most perfect fit in the whole NFL to run Shanny's system because of that run game and the bootleg out the back with his speed. Then you add to that the Skins havent been relevant and havent had any kind of QB for a million years. Now you get a guy who you think is going to be your guy for the next 10-15 years.

If RG3 is the QB for the next 12-15 years then does 2 years worth of first rounders really matter that much in the long term? Hell No. If you think he's the real deal then you go get him. Im more than down

I dont think the Skins or most fans care. If Indy did that then I think everyone would still be equally, just as, or even more ok with Luck

Football is usually a sport where quality depth matters more than a few superstars. Not at the quarterback position, though - if you have a top-tier QB, you will have a good team even if the rest of the roster is crap. So when a potential top-tier QB shows up in the draft, you go for him.

This trade was pushing all in, but it was the right hand to play so aggressively with.
