Redskins acquire 2nd Overall Pick, presumably RGIII

Post#1 » by CJ_18 » Sat Mar 10, 2012 4:41 am

Per NFL Network

Apparently they gave up their first rounder this year, AND their 1st rounder in '13 and '14, plus a 2nd rounder this year.

Being a Redskins fan, I'm obviously happy we got a great QB for the future, but 3 first rounders? How good are the rams gonna be in 3 years.

And pay him based off what? Because he played out of his mind against a bad Detroit D?

Skins needed a franchise QB more than any other team in the league. I would rather watch Griffin struggle his rookie year than to take another season of Rex Grossman or John Beck. 2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder for a potential franchise QB? Where do I sign up?

Those are gonna be top 10, top 15 picks at the least. It will hinder the growth and development of our team when we lose 2 high picks, we'll see in 2 years after those guys get drafted what we're losing out on. But RGIII will be the face of the franchise and hopefully bring respect back to the franchise that we haven't had since ST

It's 3 first rounders and a 2nd rounder, actually. Not a fan of either team, but I love the trade for the Rams. They don't need a QB and now they've got 4 high picks to strengthen their team in the next gew years. Great move for them.

2 first rounders, because they're swapping 1st round picks this year.

Price seems a bit steep. But we wont know the answer for a couple years. If RG3 is all people hope, the price will have been worth it. And that 2014 1st may end up being a late one. But if he flops, this sets Washington back many years.

Eh, semantics I guess. You said "2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder for a potential franchise qb".
In that statement, I would've used 3 first rounders.

I'd agree that it's 2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder to trade up for a potential franchise qb.

In any case, it should be real interesting looking back on this trade 5+ years from now.

I think they'll be fine unless RGIII is a bust. I don't think he'll be a bust so it's hard for me to say it's a bad trade. Sure it cost a lot, and Rams scored big time here, but it should help out both teams in the future.

Anyone who PAYS Matt Flynn is dumb.

So ridiculous people are saying they're giving up three 1st Rounders. They're swapping firsts this year(moving up four spots), giving up a 2nd and 2013 1st and 2014 1st.

Great trade for the Redskins. Only people who are saying this isn't a good trade are the fans of teams who already have good QB's. There's only like 12 really good ones(Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Newton, Vick, Roethlishberger, Romo, Rivers, Cutler, Schuab and you need a really good one to be any good these days.

Redskin fans should be elated they don't have to watch John Beck and Rex Grossman. Pretty disappointed Holmgren didn't offer the #4th, #22nd, 2nd Rd Pick and next year's 1st for RGIII. No balls!

How is it not 3 1sts for RGIII? Yes one of them is in this draft, but it's still 3 1sts (and a 2nd) going the other way

I think the price is INSANE. Redskins gonna Redskins

So the Redskins overpay on trades as well? I mean comparing this to the Eli trade the Giants got away dirt cheap, granted the scenarios were completely skewed. This is a franchise making or breaking trade for both teams right here.

I sort of want to see the Rams now try and sell off Tannehill because that would be funny, though I know it wouldn't happen.

well i think CAR showed the formula to break in a rookie QB

one stud WR, 2 rbs, and 2 TEs as safety valves....i know redskins have cap space this year to add on pieces

You'd really overpay Matt Flynn over drafting RGIII

As Rafael knows form Twitter last night, I love the move. Beyond the field this is a major win for Washington. They have desperately been trying to have a face of the franchise, a charismatic leader, a franchise QB and star you can build around. Dan Snyder is tired of being the first thing you think of when you hear the team name. It's a very long overdue cultural and paradigm shift. It helps that RG3 is a bright, funny, media-savvy black man, all of which will play very well in DC.

It also buys Shanahan time. 2012 was set up as a make-or-break year but this move buys then at least two more seasons.

Even if it fails, at least they tried, they went down swinging. As a fan I respect that and appreciate that. As a Cleveland native I'm acutely sensitive that my hometown would never do something like this and that's why that city hasn't won a title in any sport in 50 years.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

I love this for Washington. They desperately needs to win, and Snyder deserves a winner, so I hope it works out for him.

John Elway and Barry Sanders are truly the only two players that I ever considered myself a fan of, now I intend on supporting RGIII, so I hope he ends up having a hall of fame career.
