He decided to leave. Agree, it was brutal to see how he was completely out coached by Popovich in all these years. I can feel your pain.:D

He left when Kerr made a few suggestions on the defensive end.

Yeah Kerr wanted to hire a defensive assistant and MDA bolted. Probably the most stubborn coach in Suns history.

Yes, sometimes he gets outcoached, but the FO is to blame here for the terrible Carmelo trade. Horrible fit.

I'm thinking more than $36 million for two of the most overrated players in the league might have a wee bit to do with the failures of the Knicks. Notice how Linsanity really happened when both those players were out??

I just wrote an article about Amar'e in particular: How Amar'e Stoudemire is Killing Linsanity

Here's some of the good stuff:
--I looked at all of Jeremy Lin's units from this season that have played at least 5 minutes together. With Amar'e at the 4, the Knicks are scoring 96.06 points per 100 possessions. With a 3-point shooter (such as Steve Novak) at the 4, the Knicks are scoring 129.72 points per 100 possessions.
--Since the beginning of Linsanity, the Knicks are 8-0 when Amar'e plays less than 30 minutes (including the 4 games he missed) and 2-6 when he plays more than 30 minutes.
--The Knicks are 14.43 points per 100 possessions worse with Amar'e on the court this year. Which, by the way, is second worst in the NBA among players with at least 1000 minutes.

I agree that STAT & Melo certainly aren't earning all that money.... But it's like mike d just let's the team do whatever they want he is ridiculous..... I think it's more of melo than STAT that isn't fitting in with Lin

That's Popovich. MikeD had outcoached Avery Johnson, Mike Fratello, Mike Dunleavy and many others in the post seasons when many experts had predicted the Suns can't go deep in the playoffs with the style they played. Phil Jackson lost to him two years in a row in the first round - the only two years he got bounced in the first round. Granted that was a different LA team but the point is MikeD isn't a horrible coach. He has his flaws but he is in no way a coach you would can without a few more runs with perhaps a real training camp and everyone healthy on your team.

I agree. And Pop always had Duncan, arguably one of the 10 best players in history.

Kerr told him that playing rookies is how you build for the future, Mike D didnt believe him and got on the next plane to New York where there where no rookies.

Our front office was giving him too many instructions apparently, he felt he didn't have freedom, and he bounced to NY.

He's an offensive genius, put him as Mike Brown's top assistant or Mike Brown as his top assistant and they would both succeed. As a head coach, neither are very good though. They are extremely one dimensional and they lack any sense of decision making what so ever.

Why did Mike D'Antoni take out Davis for Lin when Lin was sitting all the 4th quarter and he sucked the whole game...? Why did Melo even play after he sat the first half of the 4th quarter, why didnt No-D
Antoni just go with Novak...
