Jason Kapono

I didn't understand the signing then and still don't understand it.

Yeah, I know we need shooting, but shooting is really needed from the backcourt.

For him to give us shooting from SF he would/ve had to beat out Barnes and W.Peace, a tall feat when you play for a defensive minded coach.

A bad signing. He doesn't cost anything, but much like Walton, he takes up space. Not cap space, just space on the roster.

A roster that is on life support for help from either guard position.

They should've rolled the dice and kept Gerald Green.

I said it during training camp as well. When left with the decision of who to be Kobe's backup (Ebanks, Barnes, Kapono, or Green), the easy desicion for me was Green, I don't care how bad he was stinking it up.

He's a better bench player than all of those guys. He gives you athleticism and offensive spark (way more than Shannon Brown) ... even if he is dumb as rocks.

He was basically signed to provide 3 pt shooting which was something we lacked last season. And still do.

Here's the thing though, Gerald Green is almost as good of shooter as Kapono, but gives you much livelier legs in which to guard more players.

Green's defense is bad and very inconsistent, but Kapono's is much worse IMO.

There was no real role for Kapono at the time of his signing and there still isn't. We still have five strictly SFs on the roster. All these guys with the exception of Ebanks cannot guard most SGs consistently.

Again bad signing. Especially when you consider that you already had Walton and Ebanks on the deep bench and Barnes and W.Peace in the rotation.

There was no way for him to crack that rotation, and the fact that he hasn't, when we have one of the worst SF platoons in the league, only confirms the sheer magnitude of how bad of a signing it was ... and is.

Yeah, but for us to improve our 3 point shooting he has to play!

Green is not even close to the shooter that Kapono is. The problem is that some shooters can come off the bench and make shots without an issue. Others require being in the flow of an offense. Kapono is the latter. No playing time, no success. So either LA can start playing him more and suffering on defense at the chance of him being more consistent or just let him rot on the bench. I totally agree that he was a useless signing and is out of place when he plays SG.

with the limited money we had last offseason, imo mitch did a pretty good job in signing players. we needed a 3 point shooter bad...he signed kapono and murphy...we need athleticism, a plyer that can bring energy from the bench, a replacement for lamar...he signed mcroberts ( and murphy).

i wanted to mitch to sign przybilla tho, but that probably would have cost us our entire mle.

kapono can play sg, hes pretty much like vujacic. i really wouldn't even problemize this tbh, if hes a sg/sf or whatnot, heck barnes can play sg, ebanks can play sg, plus we have goldy and morris.

but I agree green would have been a very nice addition, exactly what we need right now. mitch probably didn't wanna roll the dice on him because we already have ebanks and we just drafted goldy and morris. green would require pt to do his thing. and we cant give him that because like i said we already have three players that we need to develop.

Complaining that we should have kept Gerald "I Haven't Played in the NBA for Three Years" Green...that's how bad our supporting cast has gotten.

His averages are totally skewed by one game, in which he also scored the game winning basket for the other team. Kapono has totally sucked, but I think I would have taken my chances.

It's not even a good little run. It's one game.

Dude is a great shooter but he all f----- up this year. Maybe because he has a new baby and hes paying in his home town. Lakers are last in the NBA in 3 pt shootingm they need 3 pt shooting.

Gerald Green? Get over him, jesus, the guy is awful, low basketball IQ, good athleticism, get over him.
