now seriously, he should bat in the top half (incl 5th) of the lineup instead of the bottom half. i might even be crazy enough to consider batting lawrie leadoff instead of 7. lawrie can get on base and steal bases. here's a huge shake up to the lineup (just for fun)

Okay, i can move Johnson up the order, i now realize he has the highest OBP out of all lefties. (below is OBP from last season on Jays)

Lawrie (.373)
Johnson (.364)
Escobar (.369)

Rasmus (.201)

I dont like having Rasmus batting 9th either, but maybe that will take the pressure off for him

I would actually bat Lind 3rd mathematically speaking your best hitter should bat 4th and your worst 3rd as the 3rd batter is the most likely to bat with 2 outs. My ideal line up would be:
Esco
Lawrie
Lind
Bats
Johnson
E5
Rasmus
JPA
Snider/Thames

As for Lawrie's average its spring stats they mean nothing his 42 game's in Aug/Sept are worth 1000x more that anything he does this spring. He should not bat in the middle of the line up until he proves in the regular season hes ready. So ether bat him 2nd so hes gets a ton of PA or bat him 6th/7th there is no good reason to put him in there when we have better options.

^good ideas, i like this lineup. you would like at least 1 of esco/lawrie gets on base, asssume Lind gets out, bautista still get a chance to bat with 2 outs.

one thing to comment, i wouldn't want escobar infront of lawrie because that will prevent lawrie's running game.

If Lawrie can keep this up (obviously he can't, but if he can make that .579 his slugging, I'll take it gladly) I wouldn't mind seeing him protect Bats.

Someone should write a simple monte carlo simulator to see what the optimal batting order is. It could be a simplified version that takes into account just obp/ops.

even last year lawrie was always batting 5 and 6, he can just flat out hit, needs to be our 2nd 4th or 5th batter imo

Actually he hit 7th, most of his games last year too. The best spot for him is 3rd, but it is kinda occupied at the moment

its spring trainings fellas, can't really take it all into consideration. as far as the lineup goes. why put lawrie leadoff when he has power.

most of you guys are just looking for individual stats and want lawrie to have a 25/100+ season. i dont care where he's situated. i just want wins.

Yeah I agree with Lawrie hitting leadoff is really stupid, but I don't think anybody really counts RBI's anymore. If the 3 guys in front of you can't get on base you can be the best hitter in the world, you'll still end up with like none. I'm looking for a .260/.330/.470 season with 25 HR and 25 doubles personally.

The reason we are speculating about the lineup is because the difference between a conventional lineup and a great one is around 15 runs. That's almost the difference between Prince Fielders average WAR/season over his career and Adam Lind/Edwin E platoon. So consider the lineup the equivalent of that.

There waiting for the slump (rookie wall). If they moved him up now, when he hits the wall, it'll look like Farrell was rushing him.

They are clearly babying him.
