Hawks/Kings game thread.
Just got in from church, and there's no game thread. Guess everybody's still at church. Good for y'all.
We've been getting the good Josh Smith this 3rd. He's killing them around the basket. Yeah, he's taken some outside jumpers but they've all been clean shots, so no complaints.
Cousins is an offensive prodigy. The kid might become a great scorer.

We're playing Josh at Center (guess we don't need to trade for now). He suckers Cousins into a charge, leading the Kings to sit Cousins. Right now, Smith-at-Center is working. Hunh.

Marvelous drives, blocked by Salmons. I declare something is wrong - he cannot jump.

Josh has completely stopped trying to score inside. He made a few good-looking jumpers, now that's all he wants. He's made some but I'm starting to worry. Get the ball inside.

Nice timeout adjustment by Drew: we've forced the ball inside to Josh both possessions after the timeout, netting an inside-out 3 for Joe and a good miss by Josh.

SAC cannot miss right now. Garcia takes a quick heat check. Of course, it's good. Hook shot by Josh ends a 7-0 run by the Kings. Good shot: Cousins was pushing him off the court while he was shooting.

Nice drive by Cousins - blocked by Josh AND Marvelous. That might do it.

Nique is loving on Marvelous right now. Actually, he's been doing that since the halftime break. Marvelous steals the ball, dunks on Cousins, fouling him out. That WILL do it.

Re: Hawks/Kings game thread.
Story of the game: Cousins and Josh.
Cousins got the superstar treatment, KILLING Zaza (and beating him to a pulp - should've been some fouls called on Cousins). He scored 28.
Josh was 2 people tonight. First, he went 10-15 on inside moves and clean jumpers, but in the 4th, he was 3-8 on mostly bad jumpers. He did move back inside down the stretch, however. He scored 28.

By the way, Teague was very effective tonight. He looked like a real PG. If he could bottle this game, I wouldn't ask for much more. He scored, penetrating and from outside, he ran a pretty smooth offense, he played a pretty good game on defense. All he needs to be upset about was his poor FT shooting.

Re: Hawks/Kings game thread.
not really an exciting game. Hawks just beat a bad team, nothing really that exciting. even when the Kings made alittle run, i never felt too nervous because i always had the feeling that Josh could get two points when ever he wanted and Teague didn't even look like he broke a sweat out their, just playing very claim and relaxed, he just did what ever he wanted to with Isiah and Jimmer
the only thing i am surprised about his how bad Tyreke is. he was a guy that was suppose to challenge Joe for 3rd best SG in the NBA

It doesn't help when the coach plays him for 18 straight minutes (all of 3rd quarter and some of 4th quarter) and never got off from the bench until the game is over. Dude was exhausted.
But anyways, congrats on the win.

I like the ESPN recap where they say Drew played a 3 guard lineup and "slid Smith over the the Pf".
Have they...seen the Hawks play?

Re: Hawks/Kings game thread.
Larry Drew went with Kirk Hinrich at shooting guard, Joe Johnson at small forward and Marvin Williams on the bench. I’ve long favored that alignment and Drew has said he’s considered using it regularly but never has committed to it and still isn’t.
"Possibly," Drew said. "I’m big on matchups. Coming into this game, one of my fears was they started three guards. I didn’t want to put our club at a disadvantage having Marvin chasing guards. It has some value for us in playing Kirk in that starting spot. We bring in a guy who gives us a toughness. We are a little bit more defensive-minded with him in there. When Marvin comes off the bench, he comes in more as being a first, second or third option."
Marvin was in attack mode while bulling his way to the basket and dunking on people. Could it be that coming off the bench might offer him some advantages? "I don’t know about advantages," he said. "I guess it gives you a chance to see how the game is going to be called and how its’ going to be played. I think that’s really the only thing. I just wanted to come out and be aggressive coming off the bench. [Drew] told me earlier in the day and it was no big deal."
"I had to make a decision whether to bring [Erick] Dampier back in the game or move Josh to the five spot," Drew said. "I made the decision to go small on Cousins. He was having a good game. I didn’t want to start double-teaming him and opening up the 3-point line. It worked to our favor offensively because we were able to do some things differently and it was a bad matchup for them."
Josh had his jumper working early so the Kings were forced to respect it. "Offensively, he’s a tough cover," Keith Smart said. "He’s too big for a small forward and too quick sometimes for a power forward. He chases the ball to the shot clock. Anything that he sees going to the basket, he’s going to chase that and going to try and control the basket, control the paint. His jump shot was working tonight."
Tracy McGrady got a DNP-CD. "This was a game where I’m looking at the matchups," Drew said. "This Sacramento team, they are young and get up the floor. From a matchup standpoint it made sense to shorten the rotation to go with more speed."

Replace "Hinrich" who was finally not horrible last night with McGrady at the 3(who seems to be more of a distributer) and I am all for moving Marvin to the bench with Pargo and Green. Hinrich is god awful and honestly I don't want him getting minutes on this team unless last night was a glimpse into where he is now as far as game shape. If he contiues to be not horrible, i would prefer a small lineup with Damp starting at the 5 actually, with Zaza backing him up.
