Philly would have the right to match any contract if they extend the q/o's. But in the extent that someone offers a contract, they would need to figure out what to do asap. Baring that, having a player play out on the q/o (as Hawes is now) risks that they leave for nothing in a year and limits your ability to trade them and mitigate this loss. There really isn't a reason to trade picks for an upcoming free agent unless, a) you are willing to resign them, b) your dumping an outgoing salary you wanted to dump, or c) your getting that missing piece needed for this postseason.
Personally, I wouldn't mind Thompson hanging around so he fits a) for me. Hickson doesn't.
