It really seems childish, but they have to hold out hope until they've tried everything to improve without helping us.
GSW fan so obviously biased here. I don't see how it's "childish" to not hand over Ellis on a platter without getting back something significantly worthwhile since the value of Ellis to ORL is *our best player* plus the value of keeping *Dwight Howard*. There are no pieces on the ORL roster that actually interests us as a replacement for or upgrade to Ellis. We're not posturing. Honest.
Orlando is hardly the enemy. I'd personally love for you guys to keep Howard, but we're not going to facilitate that for nothing just because Orlando feels entitled to him (and whatever pieces we have to keep him). Bogut is honestly more appealing than pretty much anything you guys have put together as an offer outside of Dwight. And I'd rather just keep Ellis or work another deal if Bogut fell through, and that has nothing to do with spiting Orlando. It's not childish. It's just business.
Your best bet at Ellis is getting creative with a third team and giving us something we actually want. Good, low picks and/or starter material that actually improves our lineup, and something better than what we can go out and get for ourselves. I know it's hard with your roster, but that's the lay of the land.
