McGee's big problem is on the defensive end where he is consistently unaware of what is going on. Allowing Duncan to go right past him for an uncontested dunk is all too typical. He routinely makes bad rotations or simply lets guys go by him so he can try for a block.
Other teams know they can get a good look any time they want by running a pick and roll with McGee's man.

It shows some bad plays, if you want to dare bash John Wall. I won't other than to say his effort was less than stellar.
http://www.bulletsforever.com/2012/3/13 ... #storyjumpWizards Vs. Spurs Clipboard: John Wall And Playing Every Second Of Every Possession
In the first defensive play Wall was standing right next to Parker but on the "wrong" side. Of course saying it is the wrong side assumes that Wall actually knows the play that is about to be run which is probably a reach. They are standing out of bounds and i doubt Wall knows all of the Spurs plays.
In the second defensive sequence look at where McGee is on the pick and roll. That should be self explanatory. Duncan is making no effort to roll yet Mcgee doesn't even attempt to show on the pick and roll to slow down Parker. He has no clue. Wall had already cut off the first attempt at a pick and roll.
If the bigs don't show on the pick and roll how is Wall supposed to stop Parker from driving?

To me it looked like Javale was making a concentrated effort to box out rather than go for blocks. You can't blame Javale for everything that goes wrong on defense. Our perimeter defense sucks.

Mcgee's cluelessness shows up much more on defense. On offense he isn't in the position to make decisions very often. On defense he has to make quick decisions all the time.
+1
re trading McGee - I'm on the sorta on the fence there but I would lean in favor
of doing it for a late-lotto mid first. I've just had to conclude that at this point, his
mentality will never permit him to be a 2 way player. Which is a real shame.

Once the lead was down to 8, I wanted Wall in. Now, it's been pushed back to 13 and he's set to check in.
Wall and McGee. Javale has owned the boards and he's 8-9 FG.
True. McGee has played well today.

CCJ, I don't blame JaVale for the team's misfortunes. He shoots a good clip from the field, he gets boards (using his athleticism) but he makes you scratch your head a lot. There are fundamentals on his defensive positioning that just makes me mind boggle'd that he hasn't learn them in his first four years. He is better than he was in 2008, no doubt. But there's still so much he needs to showcase to really be a difference between Ws and Ls. I don't want him traded unless we can somehow get another Center prospect in return. I hate trades that involve a big going for a small (besides the Kwame deal or a future Blatche one).
I didn't want to trade McGee for the #2 pick to get D-Williams, I would have wanted to get Kanter who could play C or PF and rebound using fundamentals and his array of moves as well as his outside J. His defense is meh, but he is a very smart kid who I 've seen improve with the Jazz.
John Wall has his nights where he locks down people and he has nights last night esp against the quicker PGs. Wall has played a lot better offensively since February started and is putting up the #s I envisioned him putting up. But he, too, is not the franchise changer that we were sold to believe. But that's okay, I like him and he is improving incrementally as well but he won't succeed on a team with low BBall IQ players when John's IQ leaves a lot to be desired too.

Chocolate City Jordanaire wrote:FAH, I watched this game. Forgive this long rant to follow, but I have to speak up for Javale's effort.
I know a lot of people cannot wait for McGee to be traded, but i don't get it. Not many people are calling for Jamal Crawford or Nick Young to stop taking bad shots. FAH, you could have shown a YouTube of McGee blocking Duncan's shot. He made a terrific floater. He faced up and shot it very well. He had some beautiful hook shots go in yesterday. He was not the culprit in any way.
When Javale was 8-9 FG, Crawford looked McGee off three times (IIRC) and he put up 2 terrible forced shots. Young shot two terrible shots, too, in the third, when McGee still had only missed once. Javale ended up with 21 points and 15 rebounds in under 30 minutes. He shot 9-13 FG. Crawford shot 7-18FG. Nick shot well but he still forced some shots, terribly, in the third. But as bad as their shots were, they weren't terrible.
If you wanted to post a terrible YouTube video, you could have found at least 7 or 8 plays where Wall did a TERRIBLE job on Parker. Wall's defense was as bad as it gets. He also stopped even trying to get to the rim.
If you wanted to post a terrible video, Andray Blatche shot a brick so badly, I wondered how he did it from so close. He is so out of shape it is embarrassing to watch. The Wizards won't get him traded this way. Nobody would want that guy they're showcasing.
Anyway, FAH, you might be very angry with me. I'm sorry, but I'm angry that two days before the trade deadline, nobody is outraged at Crawford's minutes and shots and calling for him to be traded. He is a jacker who kills a team. Same with Nick Young--no assists, again. Also, Wall has turned his game around a bunch on the offensive end, but his defense at times is so bad that it frustrates me.
End of rant, but the last thing I expected was a play where McGee didn't foul Duncan in SA.
(BTW, McGee has had three strong games in a row against LAL, POR, and SA; but some folks can't wait to see him go)

Great post, FAH.
I think it is imperative to get Crawford and Young outta here, ASAP. If the Wizards can get a high-IQ, SG, who has a good stroke and can rebound and most of all defend intelligently; that will help John a bunch. I agree with you 100% about Wall.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Young is gone in the summer. Jordan will still be around as he's cheap and we have him for a couple more years... he's a good trade piece for a team that is offensively starved.

Craw clearly needs to develop some understanding of
what is and is not a good shot. Right now he has none.
Zero.
that said, he makes really good passes at times
and much more often than Nick, last night being
a case in point.
He could still develop into a serviceable 3rd G.

I mean NOBODY on the board wanted Vesely. Did anyone?
If Valunciunas and Kantner weren't options I was fine with either him or Leonard or a trade down. I just never expected him to be completely incapable of putting the ball in the hoop. How can you play hoops your whole freaking life (euro athletes don't spend a lot of time in school if they become elite athletes) and never learn how to shoot?!?!?! I preach patience, and still think he could at least somewhat turn it around but right now its looking like a Pech-styled debacle of a pick. All that being said, it could be a draft like '09 where the best we could have done after freaking Valunciunas went was get basically a league average starter. Still this board had much much better ideas on how to utilize the pick than EG. You and I both (and most here) freaking loved Faried, why not trade down for Faried and Leonard, or Faried and Singleton? Why was he so freaking obsessed with Ves?
