Someone put my mind at ease

Post#1 » by teven_1 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 1:30 pm

The average recovery time for an injury like Rubios is 12 months? (counting rehab)

It's March, meaning he may not be 100% till next March. This severely hurts our playoff chances this year AND next.
Not only that, but the Kevin Love countdown begins next year (3 year countdown). We as fans want success, but on a more basic level, we NEED success to keep Love around long term.

In hindsight the post KG rebuilding phase was pretty rough to get through, it would be really tough to go back so soon....

(I know I'm being pessimistic as hell here)

EDIT: (positive spin: I know we won last night, but maybe it would be best for Kahn to still swing a trade for Jamal Crawford before the deadline.)

Rubio suffered a partial tear so I believe he'd be back about 100% around December or January since it's not as severe. Remember a few years ago when Big Al went down with a torn ACL in February but was back in time for the season opener the following season. Granted when he comes back for the season opener next season he probably won't be full strength but he'll still be able to come in and contribute pretty quickly. His game doesn't rely on athleticism in the first place and ACL injuries aren't really career threatening in today's world.

This doesn't seem fair for anyone who defends the 1, 2, or 3 positions in the nba. It seems like people with torn acl ligaments have trouble getting their quickness back the first year. Ricky was very quick getting to loose balls, and did a good job defensively of using his quickness as an asset. I would think these would be the two main areas that will take time to get back.

Even if he isn't 95% til March, that's good enough to be in the playoffs. The Wolves don't need much to make the playoffs; the West is full of maybes anywhere below the top 2 or 3 teams. This team is young and hungry and should be in a position to make the playoffs come this time next year.

This is doubly true if they can make the playoffs this year. It's a lot harder now, but not impossible.

The thing I was most worried about was that they would need to learn how to win all over again without Rubio. They got that out of the way last night. The next hurdle is beating good teams again. Fortunately they won't have to clear that hurdle for a few more games.

my concern is that they may dealy his return to not risk further injury, and he may be cautious for a while. I'm staying optimistic.

Ok I have to say it. Although Im not a Rubio Homer, Im from Spain and I did came to this team because of him. Always have admired his career and his out of the court ethics. But men!!!, people are just making such a big deal of this injury. RUBIO IS NOT THE TIMBERWOLVES. Sure he is a big part of our new team, and more important, he is a huge prospect for years to follow. But he still isn't a Allstar, and who knows, he might never be. We have a ton of good assets in this team, including Luke and JJ, who will fill Rickys absence. And we have motherfricking LOVE, who will continue to exceed every expectation. Again, this is the Timberwolves....so please follow the team and not just the players. Yes I said it, and know many of you hate me for that. And that's OK.

Note: This is not intended to the creator of this thread, your concern about Love permanence in this club is legit. But since the injury occurred, 2/3 of posters have abandon all hope for this team and are acting like crazy 12 years old kids. Injuries are part of this game. Rubio is probably my favorite player in the league, but thats all he is - ONE player out of our entire roster. Go Wolves.

This is kind of funny, the doctors said 4 to 6 months, the sportswriter said 6 to 9 months, and some of you have turned it into a year now... From what we've been told and what the Doctors in the Spanish press have said, he has a 97% chance of coming back without any long term issues.

He isn't a running back who gets tackled every play, and has already been hit thousands of time. His injury is similar to what a soccer player or tennis player might get, there was no real contact on the play, it seems no physical damage occurred beyond the ligament tear.

He only partially tore the ACL, with no damage to the cartilage or menisci. So all the cushioning systems of his knee are fine, they just need to mend the tear. This is much easier then trying to deal with damage to the shock absorbing system, just ask Brandon Roy.

Assuming he gets his surgery in the next week or two, as Kahn suggests, he'll be jogging/shooting in June and running in July. He should be fine by October. I expect he'll be back in the Twin Cities ready to go when training camp starts. :)

If u smile, things are better! Enjoy ur day! Be happy.

First off, thanks to everyone for not just decimating me in the responses (since the topic i made is kinda over the top and dreary).

Obviously I'm with the Wolves regardless of what happens and watching Pek grow and Love become even more dominant has been a joy.

Also I still have irrational levels of optimism over the future development of Martell Webster, so I guess things aren't so bad.

Having said that, it's great to hear he'll be better sooner than I had feared.

Trust the Adelman.
He will get us to the playoffs with or without Rubio. He's also a hell of a lot smarter at player evaluation than Kahn, and will know who to target as a free agent.

I'm leaning towards the OP sentiments. I must've missed the paradigm shift, but since when are Wolves fans optimists?

I want the Rube to take his time, and to not overdo it. The Wolves training staff has a bad habit of bringing players back to soon and working them too hard. When you have workhorses on the team Brewer, Foye, Jefferson, Rubio, Beasley, Webster, etc....players tend to aggravate something else from trying to get back too soon.

I just hope Rubio takes his time getting back, and if he's not 100% until next January, or even 2013-2014, so be it. We'll still have him for many years after that.

I know it's fun to be excited for this team NOW, but let's remember its a long term plan and the ultimate goal is contending for a championship....not the 8th seed.
