Here's the director's cut of the Wizards-Lakers game, with extended slow-motion replays of each of Nick Young's six (6!) assists. You get three, you get D, and an occasional pass for free! Young costs 25% less than Crawford, with no future obligation, and you won't find a happier addition than Nick Young, coming home to a team that most definitely will go farther than the Wizards. Shall I draw up the papers?

On the other hand, Gomes' best year was below average and since then, his game has fallen off a cliff, and he gets $4 million a year through next season. Looking at his career prior to that contract, you'd almost think he was a Wizard already. Is that the price to look at a former late 1st who can't get minutes on his own team and whose career high in scoring is against the Wizards?

One of the guest commentators for the LAC-BOS game on ESPN last night said that the Clippers need a 2-guard with size. Nick Young fits the bill.

I'd take Gomes if we got Bledsoe or a future first out of the deal.

They're not going to give up a first but it would be nice. I'm at the point where they should stop collecting first round picks. The team can only have so many rookies and 2/3 year guys on the roster.

I largely agree with the second part, but additional picks could be chips to acquire useful veterans or to move up in a draft.

Bledsoe had some good games last year, but I hate the idea of adding Gomes salary to the $20-30 million next year for two players that give little now and don't figure into the future. If Lewis and/or Blatche are traded/waived, it wouldn't matter so much.

Hopefully we can move Young, even if we have to include one of our kids. I think Blatche is an amnesty, I don't think anyone will take him period. Young and McGee are the two guys we have a chance to move alone or in a package. We should move at least one of them. I'll always regrett a McGee trade though as it sounds so so so much like the 90's Wizards (throwing away young bigs with huge upside for crap).

No reason to spend assets to move McGee or Young. Any trade of those two should bring some tangible asset back, otherwise just let them expire. If moving them somehow gets Blatche off the payroll, that's a plus. If there's in fact someone out there willing to spend $32-44 million for McGee, there's a trade partner out there.

Amnesty the fat man. Buy out Shard. Move on. Let Nick go elsewhere. Hope to hear from a team that likes "The Shootist" Chuck Crawford and trade him.

I think the Wizards will end up paying McGee for one year.

Better to have lots of cap space then players and contracts you really dont want. It takes work to get a team with this much potential cap space. Don't jump just to jump. Be patient. The right player will become available and then you are clear to get them.

WAS incoming: Carmelo Anthony
WAS outgoing: Rashard Lewis, 2012 1st round pick (unprotected)

NYK incoming: Rashard Lewis, 2012 1st round pick (unprotected)
NYK outgoing: Carmelo Anthony

Why for Washington

We trade potential for a proven commodity. Anthony gives us the credible 1st-option scorer we desperately need.

Wall/Mack
(FA - Gordon?)/Crawford
Anthony/Singleton
Booker/Vesely
McGee/Seraphin

* Wizards amnesty Andray Blatche

Why for New York

Sure, they could amnesty Melo but that's relinquishing any actual value he has (and in my opinion, it's still a good amount). Trading him for Shart means they cut him and (to my knowledge) are on the hook for around 10mil of his 20+ million dollar contract next season. The 1st rounder will be a sure-fire starting-caliber player at a very reasonable contract who would fit in much better with their current cast of players.

What if our 1st is Andre Drummond, Harrison Barnes or Jeremy Lamb? Would you rather have one of them or Melo?

Knicks don't have a pick this year. I'd pass on this deal. Melo plays no defense.

It's funny, because if this trade was proposed in previous years, people would have called me crazy because of how quickly the deal would be shot down by Melo's team.

But because of the chemistry problems he's had with Lin (and to a lesser degree, Amare), his trade value is at an all-time low. This does not mean every situation is like the one in New York. Many people didn't like the pairing of offensive talent they assembled, nor did they like the abandoning of defense by hiring D'Antoni and acquiring Melo and Amare. It's not some kind of conundrum they're struggling.

For all of these reasons, I believe now is the time to make a move at Melo. It's a move that could pay instant dividends.

They're not giving up a pick, they're getting one.

And regarding Melo's defense, my rebuilding strategy's main purpose is to acquire talent without looking at specific team needs.

Trading our 1st for Melo falls under the same category as trading it for Pau Gasol that has been discussed and shut down numerous times already.

Also NYK can't amnesty Melo, as far as I'm aware, since they used that already on Billups.
