So what happens when dwight leaves in the summer? what are the options then? you can see the league has a lack of true centers and teams are overpaying mediocre ones. i say if you can a legit big now you do it.

Do you, actually, you know, read things?
If you've read any of my other posts, you'd know that I am absolutely convinced that Dwight is leaving and that we need to trade him right now and that he is a childish coward.
But, by all means, continue to be ignorant. It's way more fun.
FYI, I got this vibe from you.
I also don't think Dwight is a coward. Childish, eh, maybe. It doesn't really matter as I am 100% sure he is gone. The question is do you try 1 more time? Or do you make the trade that keeps us in the best possible contention?
You could also blow it up. But like I said, were already here, and we could just simply try it with the 2nd best center and take the same "wait and see approach." You can still have your firesale of 2012 if we get kicked out of the 1st round.
I'd be all about trying one more time if Dwight had given any indication that he would sign long-term. Or even retract his ETO. But he hasn't and he won't. He just wants one last playoff run before he bolts. He doesn't want to watch the playoffs on TV, which is what would happen if we make the trade.
I think the whole assets argument does have some validity, but I think it's more about his ego. He does see potential in this Magic team, and maybe he does think we have a small chance to win a title this season. A small chance with us is better than no chance with the Nets.

A little man called Fran.

Out of curiosity....for those who ACTUALLY have watched him (I don't follow Euro ball at all)....how good is he? Is he a good defender? Can he be a legit 15-10 starting guy in the NBA?

I also like how people are turning "I want to play out the season" and "roll the dice" into "Dwight said he wants to stay! Let's roll the dice. He wont leave us. He said it himself. Yippee!". Really people. I guess if it helps your state of mind to be in denial then who am I to judge? But the writing is very clearly on the wall.

The nets suck, their pieces suck. The only thing they have of value is Derron.
The only chance we have at "fair value" is to trade for Carmello. He is the only talent out there that is "possible" that is near the same level as Dwight.

Have any NBA players been to Brooklyn recently? That place is dominated by the hipsters now. I really look forward to Nets games being packed with guys in scarves and skinny jeans. The Knicks will always be New York's team.

FWIW, the package reported with Bynum includes a competent backup PG (Fisher), a physical perimeter defender (MWP), and some draft picks. Taking hit at starting center from superduperstar to all-star, while picking up the other assets and shipping out Hedo & Duhon's contracts. Wouldn't put the Magic in a TERRIBLE position. If the Magic were able to trade J-Rich for Beasley (who is a starting caliber 3) or a backup C, it's not a bad playoff tested roster to finish out the season with. Long term decisions about the roster (like re-signing Bynum) could be made in the offseason.

No, the only fair value is Lebron. But since we can't get him we have to settle on convincing ourselves that trading for Bynum keeps us in the hunt.

First round picks aren't pieces of garbage. And a scoring C, as underwhelming as he can be rebounding, is very very valuable on this league. Come on.
Yes because as we have seen in the past 1st round picks are guaranteed to succeed in the NBA, as an already legit superstar who has missed a total of 7 games in an 8 year career is deemed to fail.
Lopez is one of the worst defenders in the NBA.
The Nets haven't won much with these "pieces", high picks and trades, unlike the Magic who continue to be top 3 or 4 in their conference what seems like every year for the past 5 years.
Ok.

Do 0.1% of what dwight did for orlando and then you get to talk.
Sure it isn't directed at anybody in particular. I don't know if that's some ironic way of being funny (by jokingly hiding behind the fact you are replying to my previous comment - i.e. being a copout/pussy by calling somebody out on the internet and not saying who you are talking to)...but whatever. If that's directed at me, I don't care. HE is the one who says he wants to be a leader. So yes, I feel I can go ahead and call him out for that. Also, I assure you the next time I see Dwight in a new uniform, I will rip him a new one verbally. I'm not scared to do that in person.
As for "Do 0.1% of what Dwight did for Orlando"....give me a break. I have far surpassed Dwight on various levels of various things in my life. I am as good a basketball player as Dwight, of course not. Have I done as much for the community? Of course not. Do I have as much money, of course not. That doesn't mean that I can't call him out for what he is doing right now. I've always said he did a great deal for the Orlando community. Fantastic. I praised him for that. Now he is doing them a disservice, so I am calling him out in the same manner. Can't have it both ways, even though Dwight likes to try.
BTW, this isn't directed at anybody, especially not the person I quoted.
seriously was not directed at you in particular.

"Aaron Gordon will cost Henny's job by Dec 2016." Predicted Dec 2014.
"O'Quinn will have a longer and more successful NBA career than Nicholson." Predicted Jun 2012. Verified on Dec 2014.

Fisher sucks
Artest is on a bad contract and can only guard power players like Pierce or Carmelo at this point
Lakers draft picks are never good.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt XVIII: Trade Deadline co
Personally, if he leaves during the offseason, I am cool with it. Magic right now are bordering being an elite team. We have one of the best benches in the NBA.
I just want one last shot in the playoffs with Dwight. This has been one helluva roller coaster ride of a season. It has its ups and downs. But, I believe in this team and don't want to quit on them when they are peaking. Stan and the rest of the Magic players deserve to finish what they started with Dwight. After that, let the cards fall where they may. I am of the mind of "screw the haters" that are ready to give up on this season now.

It's not really about fair value at this point. It's about doing the best we can do out of a terrible situation. The best we can do is to help ourselves out as much as possible for an inevitable rebuild. You can't get fair value for Dwight, but we have to try to get SOMETHING.

Yeh....I would LOVE to get Bynum back, but Artest + Fisher is just gross. Is there really no way that we can ship them back a decent PF to replace Pau (maybe Scola) and get them to package him too so we can still obtain other pieces with part of Pau's value minus Scola? That would be the ideal.
Something like this:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=7mhuna5
(I looooooooooove Ryno and really want to keep him but if that's the only way to get Bynum+Smoov, I would do it in a heartbeat).
Or
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=7gxoff5
(even for those who don't like KMart, he would be off the books when Smoov, Iggy, Monta etc would all be FAs, could use that space to go after them then)
Houston might not do this, but they really really want Pau it seems....and you do give them a replacement PG in Jameer.

I'll be the first to admit that if Howard just runs off the Nets, I will never watch an NBA game again. I barely watch it to begin with. Have only seen a few Magic games this year due to where I live and the fact I refuse to support a league as corrupt as the NBA. Howard leaving a year in, year out contending team to a year in, year out lottery team will have me saying bye, bye to a game I have watched since the early 80s.

That is hilarious. They will probably be happy since all of them seem to want to wear hipster glasses now.
