Also sad that Costanzo won't be back. Wonder if he was looking for too much money; I know our special teams coach really loved him.

He went to the Bears. I heard that we just weren't showing a ton of interest. Based on his twitter he REALLY wanted to come back. The last week he was just retweeting Niner fans who were apparently signing a petition to bring him back.

The 49ers, who watched locker-room standout Joshua Morgan depart earlier in the day, will hang onto another favorite, cornerback Carlos Rogers. News of Rogers' return first was reported by Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole. NFL Network later followed that up with a report that Rogers had agreed to a four-year deal worth a maximum of $31.3 million. That's a hefty raise for a cornerback who last year find little interest in free agency and who played on a one-year deal worth $4.25 million.

Meanwhile, special teams ace Blake Costanzo, who badly wanted to return to the 49ers, instead agreed to a two-year deal with the Bears, according to his agent, David Canter. The 49ers signed two of Costanzo's teammates from their coverage units, C.J. Spillman and Tavares Gooden, but had no interest in a deal with Costanzo.

So why did we sign Cox then? Punt returner?

Probably. We also just need more depth at that position. Cox has good potential to develop into a solid player. It will be good to have the competition at camp.

Snyder went to Arizona.

We are meeting with Mario Manningham tomorrow. He would be a solid contributor.

I like the Cox pickup. Very low risk, potentially high reward. Plus, you can never have enough telented defensive backs in this league.

The Moss pickup, I'm not so sure on. Obviously reciever help was paramount to team needs, but I just don't know how much Randy is going to help. Everybody knows his issues, so I'm not gonna go into that. But in on the field matters, at this point he is really only a deep ball guy/red zone target. Both areas in which Alex struggles mightily. Randy isn't a great route runner at this point, and relies on his size to get "open" and Alex just won't throw a guy open, probably because he can't. Basically, what I am trying to say is I just don't see Alex and Randy making things happen.

We still have plenty of cap room and the list of FA's is endless. Here's a helpful tracking guide.

Mario Manningham signs with the 49ers. 2-year deal.

On paper our receivers look better than last season I think.

I wonder how much they gave him. Two year 15 million is my guess. He had some serious lapses this year though. I really thought he would breakout but Cruz took all the shine till the playoffs. Add Stephen Hill still to groom and our wideout core is solid.

Yea, that's the big question at this point, since that could tell us whether or not we're still in the running for Manning I think. I haven't done the math (because I hate it), but if it's for what you think it is, I think that might put us too close to the cap.

Maybe not that much though. Brandon Lloyd signed for 3 years 12 million

Hopefully two years 9 million but I doubt Rosenhaus lets him sign for that low.

Lloyd signed for pretty damn cheap, IMO. I think he probably signed for much less because it's the Pats. I could see it being a 2 year 12 million or something along those lines. Crazy to think how much different our WR corp is going to look next year. And if we get Manning, how completely different our team is going to look on offense in general. I mean, we were one (or two) fumbles away from the Super Bowl so it's pretty crazy to see such a difference on the offensive side of the ball.

Manningham might've signed cheap too if he knew PM was going to be the guy throwing to him.

This will be very interesting. I hope we're not heading to ultimate failure, but it seems like we're giving up a ton of "team unity" for "star" players. Look at who we've added on offense. Manning. Moss. Manningham (left the Giants because he wants to be the #1 or #2 WR). Alot of those players we've lost this offseason bought into our blue collar type team, Smith, Morgan, Adam Snyder (best friends with Stanley and Smith, btw). Really makes you think what our coaching staff REALLY thought of our offense last year, and why it was so limited so much.

Welcome Manningham!

It looks like Smith is meeting with Miami today. I feel like our chances with landing Manning are higher than ever. The moves we've been making just seems like a huge invitation. Peyton will be financially stable for the rest of his life, the only thing he needs to do now, football-wise, is chase & procure another ring. And let's be realistic, out of the three suitors, the only real chance he has is with SF. Going on a short tangent, I don't see him benefitting Denver much either, why take away Tebow time, win or lose, Tebow is loved among Bronco fans, his hype rakes the revenue in. I don't see Tim learning from Manning either, they're both totally different players when it comes to technique.

IF we add Manning, we're going to have ALOT of pressure. Kinda like what happened to the Eagles last year. Moss and Manning is dream team 2.0.....

Do you think this means we're moving Crabtree to the slot?
