For those of you saying Bynum

Yes... I would definitely trade Dwight for him right now. I said two months ago if Bynum wasn't injured by the trade deadline and he was showing his durability during the rigors of this condensed season (and if Dwight hasn't shown any signs of staying with us after the summer)... we should get Bynum asap.

But that won't happen now obviously.

just let him walk... unless we get Bynum back or some other package (from a rental team) that's really good and keep us competitive

if we can't get either... just let him walk... it's better to rebuild that way imo... better than getting stupid Lopez and fearing that management will have to pay him big after the end of next season... while also being a .500 win ball-club that doesn't get a decent draft spot/pick.

This. Dwight's comments have made sure that no team in the NBA will reach past the first few piece of lint in their pockets to trade for him. Expirings and draft picks are pretty much the best we can hope for, and that's exactly what we should try to get.

We need to just face the reality that our championship window has closed. We're not getting equal talent in return, we're not getting a guy we can build around for many years to come, we're not getting a guy whose name we can plaster on a 200-foot poster on the side of the arena.

The past is the past, we had a good run, now it's time to focus on the future.

Full rebuild. Lets do it.

**I stole this from my other thread, but still, relevent.**

And do what with all the capspace this summer? The free agents suck. Plans have to have foresight, not just instant gratification. Who would you go after this summer with that caproom?

1 year fillers, save the cap space and then hit the market the next year. The other option I thought of is essentially the same without getting Kaman, and keeping Hedo, and trading him for SJax

We would have 20mil in cap this summer, ($8-10 going to Ryno) then SJAX's contract expiring in 2013, so we can have another 10mil that summer for the big FA class. The rest of the cap space in 2012 would go to filling a roster for the year, then make a splash in 2013.

That's WAY more difficult to do (signing a bunch of players to 1 yr deals that still field a semi-competitive team to put butts in seats) than simply acquiring a bunch of guys with 2 years left on their deals, so you at least put together a team for the remainder of this year and next, and you get the same caproom next summer. I already showed a trade with Houston that I thought would be perfect for that.

We tank next season, perhaps be so bad that we can actually get a top 5 pick. From there we got good drafted players, with enough cap space to sign 2 max players if we really wanted too. The possibilities of rebuilding can really help out franchise. Even with our draft picks we can be right in the position as to where NJ is at, having cap space and draft picks to trade for...

What I've been saying. Don't take back any contracts from NJ that aren't expiring.

Dwight/Hedo

For

Okur/Humphries/Williams/Stevenson/2 picks.

If they throw in Lopez we can throw in Duhon

Magicman123, need to understand that we can get expirings so we can have 20 plus mil cap space if we can do things right..We can be right in the same position as NJ Nets having that kind of leverage to bring stars to their teams. Since the only GREAT PLAYERS in this year free agency is really Dwight and Deron, then wait till 2013 or even 2014 what brings or holds...Heck we can flip our first round draft picks for trades to a star and sign 2 max contract in couple of years, and we could have our selves a big three.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Turk's and Duhon's, and get picks. Then we sign guys to short term contracts that all expire in a year or two and hit free agency hard, get a star to pair with our high draft picks the next couple years.

no way. marshon is on a rookie contract and a potential future allstar and lopez can be flipped for draft picks. nj will give up these pieces to secure dwight and deron in brooklyn and not have to worry about dallas this summer.

im leaning towards yes on bynum, but i dont want to pay lopez what he will want..people keep talking about cap space? this FA class sucks, if we let dwight walk we can have $9-14mil in cap space (even with signing anderson) the FA class is awful, next year we could still sign 2 big guys..

Not exactly. There's still an ENORMOUS risk NJ runs (like in the $100s of millions risk) of D-Will going to Dallas, or Dwight having a change of heart here or somewhere else. It may be simply too big of a gamble to make for them, as they will have an extremely expensive building with nobody in it in an expensive city. If all that risk is averted by simply adding a couple of pieces (Lopez, Brooks) that aren't the centerpiece of the plan anyways, they would probably do it.

I don't think New Jersey is worried one bit about Dwight going to Dallas. From all the evidence we've pieced together it seems Dwight already had an agreement with NJ before the season even started.

That's the thing, what's all the capspace worth if there is no one worth signing that can really help us?

2013 is the year to look for, Chris Paul (likely to stay in LA, but you never know), Monta Ellis (guaranteed he leaves Milwaukee, barring some kind of super trade), Josh Smith (already wants out of ATL, if he's still there, I bet he'll still want out), and a few others.

Remember what happened last time we had a ton of space and no superstars to sign? We inked Rashard to a max contract.

Trading him comes down to which teams are willing to rent him and which teams he is willing to go too.

If he only will re-sign with The Nets, then you need the renters to bid up.

If the renters don't bid up, The Nets might not offer much to make it worthwile.

Think about it. Magic trade Dwight and become a perrenial middle of the road 30-40 win team like the Bucks.

Magic keep Dwight this year they make a run at the ship and this is the best team they have had in years while this may be their last chance for a decade if Dwight is not here. Plus, there is always that slim chance he stays. Otherwise, suck for one year winning 20 games and get a good draft pick while the summer of 2013 having $30 mil in cap space with Meer/Hedo gone!

Plus Dwight said he wanted to stay for weeks now. Magic trade Dwight now, they look like the bad guy.
Keeping Dwight is the best option.
