Also, we need to put the Bynum hope to rest. There's about a snowball's chance in Hell that LA would send him to us to rent Dwight for a run.

2013 is the year to look for, Chris Paul (likely to stay in LA, but you never know), Monta Ellis (guaranteed he leaves Milwaukee, barring some kind of super trade), Josh Smith (already wants out of ATL, if he's still there, I bet he'll still want out), and a few others.
Remember what happened last time we had a ton of space and no superstars to sign? We inked Rashard to a max contract.
exactly, find me one player in this FA class worth giving $10+mil to? (besides d12-dwill)...after next season we have the cap room anyways to be major players in Free agency

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt XIX: Trade Deadline cont
I'm assuming that everyone that wants Dwight shipped out of here does not believe that the current Magic roster can make any noise in the playoffs this season...
I say, keep him, let him walk (if he wants) in the summer, and blow it up then. The problem I have w/the NJN deal is that the Magic will be locked into paying Brook Lopez (isn't he a FA after this season)? I don't believe that Lopez is a starting C that you can build around. In today's NBA you may not need a dominant center to succeed, but IMO, you need a DEFENSIVE center to succeed. To me, Brook Lopez is NOT that guy. He doesn't appear to want to defensive rebound (need that), and to get locked into a long term deal with a (now injury prone) big man with such a glaring deficiency is shortsighted. As far as getting out from under some bad contracts, these contracts may be bad, but they all come off the books around the same time (Duhon, Turk, Q-Rich). At that point the Dwight-less Magic should have a couple of lottery picks on the roster anyway.
I say play it out, and start a rebuild in earnest in the summer if he walks. IMO, the rebuilding process won't go significantly faster if the Magic sign off on this season and trade Dwight.

I will keep Dwight unless we get a fantastic deal from some team, something not mentioned here. For the record, I do not think Bynum is on the table, and I don't think the NJ deal is available like we think, maybe just expirings and 1 pick. My opinion in now way hinges on Dwight staying or not.

@ jville: i hope u are wrong. LA and NY should be seen as some kind of threat to NJ. Hard to see that they would really turn down a trade for a HOF center bc they don't want to part with lopez and brooks[q

Thinking this franchise is doomed bc we trade a guy that "wants to be here", the same guy who requested a trade in December and held a trade request until what it seems the deadline, that's just not right. This team as constructed is not contending, wake up.

Its not that Dwight isn't worth Brooks and Lopez, its that NJ has not one ounce of pressure to trade them.

Sure they do. It may be small depending on what sort of guarantees anybody has given the NJ brass, but weren't you the one who just spouted off all of the economic terms (sunk cost, etc etc)? How about risk aversion? Again, the Nets have simply WAY too much to lose if this plan doesn't come to fruition. WAY more than they have to risk to assure it. Plus, there HAS been talk in the media that Deron has privately told friends/confidantes that he would love to go back to Dallas, I believe he even has some quotes in the media himself stating it. Cuban is also BFFs with both Deron and Dwight's agents. He has been clearing all the caproom as well for a reason. That has to at least scare NJ a little bit, cmon.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt XIX: Trade Deadline cont
This is a bad situation, that goes without being said, and I, like the rest of you, will be glad when it's all over. Whatever happens, I'll remain a fan of Orlando and Van Gundy, but I highly doubt what ensues will be best for the organization. Dwight has made ALL THE WRONG comments. He, unintentionally, has ruined our leverage in trades, and the possibility of the team "appeasing" his so called desire to win in Orlando.
D Wade played free agency perfectly, given, he was on a team with all the cap room in the world, but he wasn't back and forth with the media. Leaving Miami in control, and solid within. Whereas, Dwight's made it nearly impossible for the Magic to negotiate.
Personally, I'd love for Dwight to stay and make it to the finals, but i know dwight, and i know the second we're a couple games back to whoever, he'll have his bags packed, and will be on the phone planning a slumber party with Deron. I also wouldn't mind playing hardball with the Nets, and trying to pry Deron off their hands(they know they're rebuilding if they can't land D12 and who better to have on a rebuilding squad than JJ and Ryno?), but Dwight's shot down that notion.
The question now, I believe, is who offers the best package for Dwight and I gotta think it's NY. Melo > Bynum. I don't care what Skippity Doo Daa Bayless has to say, Bynum is not a franchise guy. Melo is..

What high lotto picks? The NJN package also comes with the obligation to pay Lopez. I'd rather the Magic rent Dwight for the rest of the season.
