Source: Dwight Howard to stay with Magic through 2012-13 season

ORLANDO, Fla. — A source with the Orlando Magic told WFTV's Christian Bruey that Dwight Howard plans to stay with the team through the 2012-13 season.

Howard has the option to opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent this summer.
Howard told the team of his plans during a meeting in San Antonio on Wednesday afternoon. The source, who was in the meeting, said Howard will opt in for the final year of his contract so long as the Magic do not trade him.

link please? I know you got the story here, I just want to send to a friend.

So when do they have to make a decision on ETO's?
Can't he tell the team he wont use it, they keep him and then he uses it anyway come summer?

So we essentially have a one year rental of Dwight Howard?

Source close to situation says Knicks intrigued about a Dwight Howard deal, but says no way it includes Melo since James Dolan "loves him."

How would that be possible? We can't trade for them or sign them outright.

Actually the Magic could have a ton of money for the summer of 2013. Redick and Nelson come off the books. Hedo only has one year left, meaning he could easily be traded for a pick or expiring. The only sticking points are Davis, Richardson, QRich and Duhon. I think the Magic will try and move Richardson now. Try and move Davis later. QRich and Duhon will have one more year left with manageable contracts so they could both be moved easily. That would leave us Anderson, Howard and around 35 million in cap space to use.

Ellis, Paul, Smith, etc will be FAs in 2013. Hell Williams may also be a FA by then too if he opts in.

Turk's final year only $6mil guaranteed and Duhon's only $1.5 guaranteed. Baby/JRich could be cut-and-stretched to clear a lil over half their salary on cap as well.

Magic trade rumor coming soon ...

According to sources, @MisterRudolph is continually pressing the F5 key on his keyboard while frantically checking RealGM, The Orlando Sentinel, InsideHoops, NBA.com, and True Blue Nation so that he can be the first to post this trade rumor onto his Twitter page so that the RealGM Message Boards will have an epic meltdown (again)

What I was told was that Magic were working on 3-team trade that would have brought Josh Smith to Orlando. But it's not true.

I didn't even realize it but people have pointed out we'll have cap room after next season to re-sign Dwight and get someone to help him out.

If he opts in for another season, we might as well be doing it the Miami way
