The ETO waiver -- meaning Howard wouldn't opt out of his deal for next season -- is in Howard's possession in San Antonio, the person said.

However, a person briefed on the conversation told @CBSSports that Howard told a Magic official today he would sign the ETO waiver.

This is concerning. All he has to do is sign his name. Why the delay?

So if he signs the waiver his is with us next season if not he can opt out, am I right in saying this??

I can't believe some people in here think we would just shake Howard's hand and not have him sign the wavier. You seriously can't be that ignorant. Sure this is basketball, but it is also a business.

He doesn't get anything out of this b/c he has no ties to Dwight's current contract...Right?

If he signs the paper he is with us until the end of next season unless the magic want to deal him.

Holy Christ, I follow this thread basically 24x7 for the past three days, then go off to work on some stuff for an hour and it's basically over, he's opting in?

Not that I'm not ecstatic if this is true, but why couldn't he have done that when we had Ellis on the table...?

in fact, history is basketball is full of change of hearts and more shocking ones than this. until the fat lady sings people.

dwight is just kid, you should GET that - unless you too are kids of course, then it is fine.

isn't he like 27 and have a kid of his own? I don't think we can keep calling him a kid much longer lol, but I get your point from a mind state

As someone just tweeted, if Jameer doesn't ruin the Heat last night, maybe Dwight doesn't opt in. Jameer to Deron: "U mad, bro?"

Everyone knew there was the off chance that he had a change of heart. The point is, it is not smart business to bank on that and put your blind faith in a person on the probability of that happening.

With or without Howard, Otis Smith should be fired, I don`t want this man dictating the decisions of my franchise.
Smart / Micic / D. Wright
Wiggins / Exum / J. Adams
Parker / K. Anderson / Mcdermott
Randle / Vonleh / Stokes
Embiid / Nurkic/ Tavares

Ken Berger ‏ @KBergCBS
Howard's agent, Dan Fegan, who has not responded to requests for comment, also has to sign the ETO waiver for it to be valid.

sounds like a lot of backtracking, don't get your hopes up til he signs Magic fans. Laker fans had to learn the hard way during the Cp3 veto in the summer
