Keep him the rest of the season. Loved what Wittman had to say about the guards:

Bumping for the newfound availability of Mike D'Antoni.

Per Deadspin:

Assistant coach Mike Woodson will take over the rudderless Knicks in the interim. As for D'Antoni? Our tipster, currently batting 1.000, says that "he has either the Wash or Charlotte job lined up, otherwise he would not have left." For what it's worth.

I would cancel my league pass subscription if D'Antoni were made coach.

On one hand, our offense will probably be a lot better.

On the other, the defense will be atrocious unless we bring in the right personnel as well as the right coach. Woodson was the Knicks D coordinator basically and I believe are ranked in the top half in the league in team defense. It's basically Eddie Jordan re-dux.

It's not that I don't like Mike D'Antoni -- it's that he's just not the right guy for this team.

So a big "NO THANKS" to that idea.

I wouldn't be opposed if it is true. I don't think he's a bad choice given our current roster his uptempo style could benefit Wall, as well as Crawford, Singleton, Booker, Vesely, McGee. Definitely need more shooters though.

Think he has some respect given past success with Suns, and work with Olympic team. I mean certainly he's not my first choice, or 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th, but could do worse.

I like the idea of Phil Jackson going to NY, Larry Brown going to the Bobcats, D'Antoni on the market, and Sloan coming back to coach somewhere. A big musical chairs of proven coaches with long track records taking every job, leaving the Wizards with a choice of young talented coaches that every other team passed on in favor of big names.

DAntoni with Wall would either be the greatest or worst move possible. Nothing in the middle would be a possible outcome.

Please, not D'Antoni! :(

He allowed what happened in NY and I don't want him in DC.

I don't think it's fair to say he "allowed" what happened in NY. That team looked pretty good minus Melo and pretty awful with him. All sources indicate that Melo is the problem.

No coach, save maybe Phil Jackson, wins a power struggle like that. Dantoni tried to trade Melo and when ownership declined, he resigned. Can't ask any more from him than that.

Just throwing it out there but OKC coach Scott Brooks still doesn't have a contract. He's only signed through the end of this year. Just saying, I'm sure Presti will lock him up but he could be an option.

BTW, Broussard on ESPN just said there's a chance Nate McMillan might walk away from the Blazers job this offseason. Another name we could look at.

I don't hold D'Antoni responsible for what happened with the NYK. That is faulty roster construction and selfish play by a flawed "superstar". D'Antoni may also not be as good as he looked in Phx with the wunderkind, Nash.

I actually don't think D'Antoni would be a bad choice. He isn't a good choice to win a title, but what are the odds that we win a title in the next 3-4 years anyway? D'Antoni would be a very good choice for developing Wall as an offensive force. If Wall makes a leap, and we make the playoffs but can't win a championship, is that failure?

Repeat after me, slowly, and with feeling: we want a hungry, ambitious, gifted, reasonably young assistant coach who wants to prove himself and make a name for himself, not some re-tread guy who already has enough money to take care of his grandkids.

I think McMillian could be a good option if available. One thing he has done that not many coaches have done, is make a culture change in his team. He also has worked with Pritchard in Portland who I think would be a good GM candidate. He is young enough that he could easily coach for Wall's entire career.

I don't think Brooks will be available, but definitely worth an offer if he was.

I think the results with D'Antoni would be similar to what they were with Flip. I think it would be bad for both parties.

Speaking of McMillan, the new Knicks beat the Blazers by 42 points, 121-79, last night. Nate might not make it to the offseason IMO.

Nicolas Batum finished minus 39 for the game. I don't recall ever seeing a lower +/- figure. Such a good player, too, to have that number.

I think adding +/- to NBA box scores has actually degraded the quality of available stats rather than improving it. It's meaningless as far as I'm concerned.

McMillan might be nice here, though.

D'antoni, McMillian, Joerger, Wittman, Budenholzer, Naismith. To a certain degree it doesn't matter; the Wizards overwhelming priority needs to be upgrading the talent on the roster.
