Rudolph’s interview with Howard would have taken place shortly after Howard did this Q-and-A with the media after the defeat in San Antonio. In this interview, Howard said again he wants to play out the season with the Magic and that the Magic should take a chance on him; never once does he hint at opting in for 2012-13.

Didnt Rudolph say HE WILL get rid of ETO ???

Robbins is saying that is what Dwight said in the Media Q and A immediately after the game. After that he had the interview with Jarrod and that is where Jarrod's reports come from.

Robbins does bring up a good point that both Dwight and Fegan will have to sign the waiver. That could arise some interesting issues if Fegan knows he is probably going to get fired.

Yeah that is what I was just thinking, but wonder if there would be paper work etc that would just slow it all down. I'm sure there would be a way to sort it out in time sensitive situations like this.

It is 6:30am in Florida where I am at and coffee has not kicked in yet. Please give me an update to where we are at now?

Chronologically, as best I can remember:

- The Magic had been telling Dwight that without a commitment from him, they would trade him, regardless of if he wanted to stay in Orlando for the rest of this season or not, and not necessarily to New Jersey but to whichever team gave us the best offer.

- Dwight apparently wasn't willing to offer that, up until yesterday afternoon when he supposedly told Alex Martins and his team-mates he was willing to opt-in for next season.

- Shortly after, reports surfaced that Dwight didn't tell his team-mates that, and in fact just said he was "all in for this season", and made no mention of next year.

- Not long after that, Alex Kennedy, Josh Robbins and others said that the team-mate thing was inconsequential, and that all that mattered was Dwight had told the Magic front office he would stay through next season.

- Orlando wanted Dwight to formally waived the early termination option in his contract, making his opt-in binding and protecting them against him changing his mind. They drew up the paperwork.

- A little later, reports came out of a conference call between Dwight, his agent and the Magic front office, in which Dwight supposedly said he hadn't understood the full ramifications of waiving his ETO (?), and that he would not be completing the paperwork, leaving his commitment as verbal only.

- At this point, the Magic were reportedly leaning strongly towards trading him.

- After the game against the Spurs, Dwight gave an interview to Jarrod Rudolph in which he said he had received bad advice, and apologized to the Magic organization and fans for this years roller-coaster, said he loved Orlando and wanted to be here long term, and apparently stated that he would formally sign the ETO waiver.

- The Magic continue to explore trades involving Dwight until he has completed the paperwork, presumably guarding themselves against another potential change of heart from Howard.
