The extension language of the CBA is a bit confusing...because it talks about allowing one player on your team the ability to extend for 5 years at 30% of the cap (I think Rose just did this?) if they are basically an all-star. Although I think this might only have to do with people still on their rookie contracts or something? He can always wait until the end of next year and re-up for 5 more years if he wants. Or he can just keep extending the contracts towards the end of them.

He is not signing an extension. Just waiving his opt out clause. He will then have to resign, hopefully with us after FA.

How is that even possible? Even if he opted in, he would be an UFA after the 2012-2013 season meaning he should have the rights as every other UFA. 5 year MAX deal.

Maybe add a pick?

OK now that makes sense. Basically if he extends, he can only extend for 3 years. If he plays until he is an UFA, he can sign a new 5 year deal.

as douchey as ESPN has been this morning... they still have to reluctantly report this FACT (sports news) that Howard will opt-in his final year of his contract with the Magic... *haha @ ESPN, eat crow*

Well we are basically going to go through this again in 2013. I just hope we get a long term commitment from Howard in 2013.

If Dwight can sign it early (let's say 10/10:30am), we still 4-5hrs until the deadline to maybe get a deal done.

Like someone said... other teams are waiting to see what Dwight does before doing anything

This summer is going to be CRITICAL... but it buys us time... time to formulate an actual plan to get Dwight help. That's all we need.... time.
