Is Adrian Woj the most underrated player in this ordeal? His article regarding Dwight's masterplan to screw this team destroyed Dwight's image, and we know how much Dwight wants to protect his image.

“Dwight doesn’t want to be the bad guy,” one source involved in the process said of Howard’s past 24 hours. “He doesn’t want to be unpopular. He flaked out.”

Can somebody explain Dwight's contract situation if he opts in?

It's just the exact same situation as this year basically. Buys us more time, and we are in way better cap situation potentially next summer to bring in a max guy. But for Dwight it's basically the same. Although I think he might be able to get a bigger future contract since next year's salary was originally from the old CBA, so it was a little more, and his next contract will be based off of that salary?

As happy as I am that Dwight is staying another year, I'm kinda bummed that there aren't any rumors about us making any other improvements. Anyone else agree?

Not much to explain. He is contracted with the Magic through 2012-2013 season. He can become an UFA 1 July 2013, meaning he can sign a 5 year 120 to 130 million dollar deal with the Magic. He could also sign a 3 year extension while he is under contract with the Magic.

Yeah, run over, act all excited, and say "OMG, Dwight just flipped out. After signing the contract, he falcon-punched Rich DeVos right out of his wheelchair, suplexed Otis through the boardroom table, then stood over him and in his best Vince McMahon impression growled "You're.....FIRED!". Otis lay motionless, barely conscious, mumbling "I like this team, I like this team...""

If he opts in, Dwight will be a full unrestricted FA in the summer of 2013. At that time, he will be able to sign a new 5yrs MAX (7% raises) deal with the Magic, or 4yrs MAX (4% raises) deal with any other team with cap space.

Agreed, and it sounded heartfelt. I guess it was Jarrod Rudolph on 740 this morning and he said it well: Dwight owned it, admitted he made a mistake, took responsibility for the situation, and apologized to the fans. He seems to want to do what's necessary to do the right thing.

of course, until that little paper gets signed, anything can happen. I'm guessing Fegan is still trying to weasel him out of it.

Isn't that kind of a risky move for Dwight? No guarantee that he'll make money in 2013-2014.

cant sign 5 year unless he opts out and signs on July 1 to a 5 year deal

As I understand it, he can play out next year and resign for up to five years.
Or, he can sign an extension of up to three additional years any time after July.

Not to go off topic too much but with the great level of game Jameer has played over the past couple of games and the obvious help needed on wing defense do you think we still need to upgrade our pg situation or try and move JRich and Duhon for a wing defender ?
