Official: Sessions & Eyenga for Lakers 1st, Walton, & Kapono

Post#1 » by B Mac » Thu Mar 15, 2012 5:36 pm

Sessions and Eyenga for Walton, Kapnono, and Lakers 2012 1st. The Cavs also get the right to swap their 2013 Heat 1st round pick with the 2013 Lakers 1st round pick if they so choose.

The worst kept secret of the last month.

Felt it coming.

Congrats to the Lakers on getting a good starting PG and good job Chris Grant to add a first round pick.

Horrible trade for the Cavs. Trade an above average point guard for an absolutely horrific contract and what will now be by the end of the season a late first rounder?

Yikes.

Walton/1st for Sessions/Eyenga... can't be right can it?

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1168831

@JasonLloydABJ: #Cavs trade Ramon Sessions, Christian Eyenga to Lakers for Luke Walton and Lakers' #1 pick (top 14 protected) in 2012.

Any protections on that Lakers pick? Would be kind of bizarre if by some injury (Bynum's overdue if you look at established patterns and their only 5 games out from 9th) the Lakers were to miss the playoffs and win the lottery...

Why would it be a late first rounder, Lakers are an old team and aren't able to knock out wins like that, I'd say it's stand in the late teens.

Luke Walton contract isn't bad, around the same as sessions, and becomes expiring next year.

Not sure how you figure? Sessions is a half a season rental for the Lakers and will opt out at the end of the season. Walton's contract doesnt matter at all to the Cavs as we wont be players in free agency ever anyway. Eyenga is god awful as well.

Looks like the Cavs just added a 1st rounder in a stacked draft class for 30 games of Ramon Sessions.

I'll take it.

Right now the Lakers pick is 25th, and this trade improves them quiet a bit.. The difference between Luke Walton and Sessions is that Sessions can actually contribute, and his contract wasn't really that bad at all considering what he brings to the table. Walton does nothing, which is what makes his contract bad.

Good trade. We will use our seconds and this pick to acquire a teens pick. Also, next year Walton's 6.1 million expiring is another asset to deal with for those gunning for Dwight and need cap space. Pure gravy for Cleveland. Thank God we'll now miss the playoffs and get a pick in th 7 range.

I don't HATE it for the Cavs. Obviously, we all saw this one coming. I'm glad we got the pick. However, I think giving up Eyenga AND taking Walton was a little much. Even though I think the Cavs wanted to add in Eyenga. That whole story about him being sent to the D-League for 'practice habits' made me think his days were numbered.

Walton will be a valuable expiring next year, which could maybe pick us up another 1st. Now we all have to hate the Lakers for a while and hope they start losing :P

Those who says its a bad deal for the Cavs clearly don't understand what we're trying to do. Sessions was a great back up PG, but he only played around 20 mpg. We're getting a very valuable asset in a first round pick. We have 4 decent picks in the coming draft and its crucial we draft right and if we do that we could be back in the playoffs by next year.
Sessions was on an expiring contract and was probably to leave after the season so I think we got decent value out of him.

Walton's contract is not an issue right now....

this is heavily underrated.

"As part of the deal, the Cavs hold the right to swap the Miami Heat’s first-round pick in 2013 with the Lakers’ selection. "

I am guessing that other teams were trying to acquire Sessions for a 2nd and/or a similar contract. Where is Puke Jackson these days, we need the trifecta.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Hey Cavs fans, I know nothing about Sessions, but I see he had 24 points against the Clippers and 19 against the 76rs, he also has a bunch of double figure scoring games, keep in mind our Starting PG is 37 and in 25 mpg averages UNDER 6 PPG and 3 APG, so he could be a huge upgrade..

How is his play? and will he be better as a starter playing with better players (no offense)?

As for Walton, he is a very smart player, good defense, great assist guy, scores a bit when he gets some minutes and can disrupt the other team pretty well, not sure why he has not been playing, but if Byron gives him some minutes, he may surprise you...

So we also get Jason Kapono, who we drafted back in 2003.

A first round pick that is around 25-28 is not that valuable. Those kinds of picks can essentially be bought.

In a way, this helps the Cavs with losses for this season, which means a better pick for us. No more meaningless wins with Sessions putting up futile numbers.

Liver,

You arent going to convince any of us otherwise. This was a solid trade for the Cavs.
