Jefferson for Jackson now a done deal
According to Rick Bucher.
Not exactly sure how I feel about this.

And now its a done deal.
We dump RJ's contract and get back a player who could be much much better.

Re: Jefferson for Jackson now a done deal
I welcome this trade, I've always liked Stephen Jackson. He wasn't playing a lot for the Bucks (well, barely at all after helping them beat us early in the season) but I hope he is in good shape. I was hoping we wouldn't have to give a 1st round pick but it looks like we gave it up eventually.

unloads RJ contract. and Jackson will produce more in the playoffs imo.
Could start or have Leonard start and Jack off the bench

There could be restrictions on the pick, let's hope we eventually give up a 2nd round pick somehow

Is it a done deal? I still can't find a link to it. I'm only seeing rumors of the deal but nothing that confirms it.

Re: Jefferson for Jackson now a done deal
Nevermind, I just saw it.
I'm ecstatic about this trade. As deep as the 2012 draft is, I thought we're set at just about every position. We're young enough. Splitter, Blair, Kawhi, Green, Parker and Neal are solid core to have in the future. It's too early to look for Parker replacements when he's just 29 years old IMO. So whatever pick we sent out, I don't care for it much.
From an oncourt production, we knew what Stephen Jackson used to give us and he has developed a lot more since then. I'd be happy if he's just what he was. When motivated, I think Jackson is a very very good player. I've been longing for us to have a Mario Elie type dog for a while. I think every team needs that tough guy and I must say I think Jax is more ready to take on the opposing top perimeter scorer than Richard or Kawhi.
I'm just very excited about this deal. What I don't know yet is how much Jax is still owed. I believe it's plenty but it can't be much difference than Richard Jefferson's since it's straight up. And RJ ofcourse is the younger player so in a couple of years it might look really bad for us.

Re: Jefferson for Jackson now a done deal
I heard that RJ's contract is a year longer and that's why we give the pick - to make up for the Warriors getting a player on a longer deal.
I have been a fan of Stephen Jackson ever since he was on our 2003 title team and was a fan when he was in Indiana and especially on that We Believe GS team in 2007 that took out the Mavs. I know he is no longer that player but I still feel he is an upgrade over RJ. Plus, if someone can get through to S-Jax, it's Pop.

I like this for you guys.
As someone has said already, Cap'n Jack will likely produce more in the playoffs. I haven't seen a lot of the Spurs this season, other than our two highly competitive losses to you guys, but you're deep man. You should run it far in the West. Good luck.

Bucks fan here. I don't know what Stephen Jackson was like for you guys 8 years ago, but what you're getting now is a wannabe rapper, bad influence on young players, hard partying, out-of-shape dumbass.

Hopefully Popvich knows about all this nonsense, including all of his VIP appearances at night clubs. Good luck with the self-anointed "Ultimate Teammate."

So apparently the pick is a conditional future first-round draft pick. No word on what the protection is.

That's what he plays like on a bad team. We're a well-run organisation, Pop and co. know Jackson and won't put up with his shenanigans. We'll get the most out of him while he's here.

Re: Jefferson for Jackson now a done deal
I don't really like this deal. If we got Jackson like, 5 years ago, I'd like this deal. But he's been really awful this year, wasn't that great last year, and really wasn't that great the year before that either.
Couple that with the fact that he's been bouncing all over the place his entire career because he's an alleged "locker room cancer", and the fact that we just gave up a very good 3pt shooter AND our first round pick in a very deep draft. . .and it just doesn't look good to me at all.
Our 3pt shooting is now downgraded, our chemistry is downgraded, our defensive rotations are going to be worse (he hasn't played here in a decade, he's been on garbage teams with garbage defenses ever since).
I really don't see what Jackson gives us at all, except another Gary Neal "I'm gonna shoot it every time" mentality, only he's not as reliable as Neal. let's not forget, Jackson is a career 41% FG% guy. And his career 3pt% is significantly worse than Jefferson's, not to mention he's shooting 14.5%(!) WORSE than Jefferson from three this year.
This seems a lot more like wishful thinking, and "maybe", than a logical "yes this clearly looks good". I'm not a very faith-driven person, so I'm not sold on this at all unless Jackson clearly produces on the floor. Right now, I'm just not feeling it at all.
If I were the Bucks, I happily trade Jackson for Jefferson and a first rounder in next year's deep draft. So for the Bucks at least, it's an excellent trade for them. For us, it seems like a lateral movement at BEST. And that's not even taking the lost draft pick into consideration. All we got out of this was saving money. And since we don't exactly get free agents coming here in droves, I'm not too choked up about the savings.
Sorry to see RJ go. He was really growing on me lately.
It's probably something stupid like, "if it's a top 15 pick, Spurs keep it". Some draft position we'll never drop to. That's what conditional picks usually are. So unless our entire team dies in a plane crash and we have to fill out the roster with D leaguers, we've likely lost the pick.

I like this deal for the fact that Jackson is not RJ. That alone makes it an upgrade.

agreed, Jefferson always looked better than he really was because he had Jason Kidd on his team.
S-Jax will produce in the playoffs alot more than RJ ever has.
I know u had to give up a first but it was worth it IMHO, you all do better in the 2nd round anyway.

All I can say is - GREAT MOVE!
So much more I could say as I love Jackson and his game...
Jax must be ecstatic right now, my god
Jefferson was effective to an extent, but overall wasn't giving enough for what was needed out of that starting position.

Re: Jefferson for Jackson now a done deal
Anybody who's seen Jackson play with Charlotte and Golden State knows he still has a versatile skill set on both ends of the floor... Charlotte wasn't a bad defensive team always when he was there either, and was the reason they made the playoffs in 2010... and Jackson always played hard on defense with Golden State (past 2007, too)
And I'm sorry, but you can't count his time with Milwaukee.... no defined role on a team with a stubborn coach where there are already young players developing on a medicore, mid-lottery team.
