Wow, Smart pretty much calls out Evans here when he talks about Stuckey adding a jump shot.

-8:27 in third Hayes plays the pick and roll like a fool and Monroe gets an easy lay up. That looks like a basket to me. 0 points? Give me a break. Right before that, Monroe gets a rebound over Hayes because Hayes is a horrible midget rebounder. Monroe continues to grab boards while Hayes is a liability on the boards for the entire quarter.
-The next 6+ minutes, the Pistons guards get hot and just don't pass Monroe the ball or run any plays involving him. Not because Hayes was denying Monroe the ball, but because the guards would get up a shots and make them early in the shot-clock. Wow great defense Hayes!
-The next time Monroe gets a touch is around 1:40, when Salmons comes to double. Monroe passes out. That's Hayes taking Monroe out of the game, right?
-Monroe touches the next possession and he just misses. If that's what you're basing your "8 minutes of stopping Monroe" theory on, you have got to be kidding me. Pistons get the rebound and score.
-Monroe gets one more layup attempt but is swarmed by 3 defenders and misses. All Hayes, right? Again, Pistons get the rebound and score.
-And that's the third for you! 8 minutes of pure, unadulterated Chuck Hayes defense.. Let's forget about the fact that when he came in for Cousins we were within a basket and by the end of the third, the game was out of reach.
Please stop lying to defend Hayes. I could even simplify that to, stop defending Hayes, because any defense of his play is a lie. If you want to break things down, we'll break things down. There's no getting around that Hayes is awful. Anyone who paid attention to that game and isn't 110% biased towards Hayes knows Hayes did NOTHING to stop Monroe in the third. The Pistons guards simply dominated the ball in the third while Hayes was a handicap for us as far as rebounding.
Also, Hayes ruined our offense in the second when we were up by 16. The ball movement was fluid and amazing, then he decides to be a ball-stopper in all of his infinite wisdom, and posts up, which as expected led to a turnover. Then he bobbles a pass that should have been an assist, doesn't even try to get an offensive board, turnover. Rhythm dead. Ball game turns at that point.
Hayes got outrebounded whenever he was in the game, which cost us big time as well. Just watch him. He doesn't even try to get himself into position to get rebounds. He just watches from afar. But I guess his "intangibles" are more important? Please.
Pairing him with Cousins is not the answer, and that was proven early in the season. The only thing it does is inflate Cousins' rebounding numbers because Hayes isn't doing anything on the glass. Bigs killed us early in the season because bigs kill Hayes when they want to. He is undersized and slow, and any big in this league can have a career game against him at will. Amnesty him asap.

pillwenney wrote:It's about many things defensively, but it's ABSOLUTELY about talent. Our defense is worse than last year despite Demarcus improving a lot, and the additions of Salmons and Hayes. It's because we also have two rookie guards that can't guard a lot of guys at their position, our good perimeter defenders are inconsistent (Tyreke in particular can be outstanding or have unbelievably bad lapses), and we have no protection at the basket at all. We miss Sam. We just do.
That's not to say that there isn't blame to go around. I've been to the last several games and have sat about 10 yards away from the court. The amount of time guys don't even have the guy their guarding figured out until halfway into the possession is just astounding. This is everybody's fault. It's a ludicrous problem for a professional team. Part of it is that the lineup changes are so weird that guys have trouble keeping track of where they stand. This is on Smart, but at the same time, it's not that **** hard. It's also just a matter of focusing and giving a ****.
The problem with Chuck in general is he was just kind of a dumb guy to bring here. What does Chuck do well is way too similar to Cuz.
What do we want Chuck to do offensively? Pass from the high post. What do we want Cuz to do offensively? Pass....from the high post. And when he does that, what will the defense do with Chuck? Lay off of him. Because he can't shoot and it's very easy to recover on him when he's in a position to finish.
What is Chuck best at defensively? Individual defense against bigs in the post and in the face up game, and drawing charges. What is Cuz best at defensively? Same thing. We saw it in the Hawks game. When Cuz went on Josh Smith, he went from dominating the game to being pretty quiet. He still struggles with consistency and of course fouls here, but this is where his future is defensively.
In terms of skill, Chuck Hayes is Demarcus Cousins minus about half of his skillset and about a foot in standing reach. They don't make sense together.
boogie-reke wrote:I honestly don't see how Demarcus improoved alot defensively. he gives up on alot of plays and chooses not to foul more then trying to contest.
If he wants to he shows what he can do - but alot of times he just gives up on defence.
