Summer Free Agency 2012-2013

Post#1 » by EArl » Fri Mar 16, 2012 5:56 am

I do not know to much about cap space, but with these trades that we made how much cap space have we actually freed? How much money can we offer a player for next year?
My prediction is that we will probably try to sign Beasley and possibly amnesty Peace!
Any thoughts/predictions?

I don't think we really have much to work with, but i see us going after deron williams and try to do a sign and trade with NJ if he wants to leave. NJ cant go into rebuild mode moving to Brooklyn so they'll probably want some veteran talent, and i can see them taking pau rather then letting him sign in dallas for nothing.

I could see the Lakers moving Gasol for something.
Especially if we don't make it deep in the playoffs. Its safe to say that the goal this year is to win or go home!

Let's see how Ramon does and if he is a long term option. If not, we should look at Nash. Trading Pau will def. come up again, and it would be nice to get a starting SF with Barnes becoming a FA. It'll be an interesting summer.

We have these play around with in the off-season:

1. Pau as a trade piece again lol

2. Odom TPE which expires in December (package it with our 2013 pick? Doubt it)

3. MLE of 2.5 mil (I want us to target maybe AK47 or some other SF)

4. Expiring contracts of Mcbob and maybe Sessions (Prolly gna resign with us tho)

5. Amnesty Provision still available

im envisioning, but not advocating, a gasol move and further cost cutting moves to counter new CBA limitations.

The SF position could be totally different looking for the Lakers with Barnes, Ebanks being FA's and Artest probably being amnestied. The best available SF free agents are Beasley, CJ Miles, Pietrus, Josh Howard and Barnes. Gerald Wallce would be nice but he's out of the Lakers price range. I thought the mini mle was 3m next summer. Also Corey Brewer in Denver could be trade option with the TPE because with Chandler resigning and they already have Galinari that leaves no room for him on that roster.

We should keep Barnes. And there is absolutely no reason why we would need a 2013 pick, so packaging it with the TPE or just on its own needs to be done.

For those of you who keep saying Artest is going to be amnestied: keep in mind Larry Coon's contention that they are saving the amnesty for "Kobe insurance."

Either we cut Artest to save on 6M or the 30M for Kobe...and that's not even getting into the taxes. Yes Artest is old, but so is Kobe. By the last year of his contract the Lakers will be paying around $70,000,000 -- just for KB24. Essentially the salary of entire teams.

Last summer we all said Artest, Walton, Blake...those are all chickenfeed if Kobe's legs go out on him.

Bryant isn't getting amnestied. Yes his contract is massive but he makes you more money than what you're giving him. The only way the amnesty provision should even be considered as it pertains to him is if he's at the age he is right now and had say about 5 more years on his contract. But that's not the case. He has two more years instead of five, I think this franchise can swallow two more years of grossly paid Kobe no matter how hard it is to swallow.

Not to mention how bad the Lakers would look in the eyes of the media as well as future stars who may want to play for them if they got rid of Kobe. "Well they got rid of someone who helped bring them 5 rings in someone who's also regarded as the 2nd best SG of all time, only second to Michael Jordan. What's stopping them from doing the same to me?"

Unless they get a really, really cheap SF replacement, my prediction is that they don't amnesty World Peace.

I think their thinking is that if he can still reasonably contribute they'll keep him until they can trade him later.

The Lakers are pinching pennies, so unless they steal a starting caliber, defensive SF for 3 mill or less, we'll have World Peace next year and the year after that ...

... and I agree with the idea.

World Peace still has a unique skill set that can help a team win. you don't pay him 15 mill for him to get ghost, even if that 15 mill is really 30 mill with the tax.

If he were amnestied the replacement would be someone really, really cheap to offset the 15 mill already paid to World Peace ... yes the Lakers are some penny pinchin' mutha (shut your mouth).

World Peace will be the starting SF next year this time.
