DraftExpress put up a new mock draft. Has us taking:

#6 - Harrison Barnes

#11 - Terrence Jones

http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2012/

EDIT: FWIW, here's the 2nd round:

#11 - Jae Crowder SF/PF
21 years old; 6'6"; 235 lbs.
Marquette, Senior

#14 - Augusto Cesar Lima PF
20 years old; 6'10"; 235 lbs.
Malaga, International

What I find interesting in that mock is that Fab Melo has dropped into the second round. That would be crazy good value if we could take a flier on him with a second round pick.

Why is Fab Melo so poorly regarded in the draft. From everything I've heard about him, he's a 7ft defensive anchor, seems like those skills would be quite useful in the NBa.

Harrison Barnes seems to me like one of those guys that has the body/jumpshot to absolutely be around for a while, but I see him at that 16/6/4 type level in his prime...as much as he reminds me of Lebron with his rippedness/shooting motion, I just am not overall very impressed with anything he does.

I see Iguodala type numbers and a good contributing career...but I wouldn't draft him with any expectations higher than that.

We're losing, NJ lost tonight, the Knicks are about to win against Indy and Toronto is up 10 on Memphis. So far, all the outcomes the Blazers would want on the first fill day of this Blazer rebuild.

How the **** did we win... whatever... the NJ situation is like a fine wine it requires balance. too much of the good stuff and it goes top 3 too much winning and it might be the POFs for those ****...

Jerryd Bayless leading Toronto to an unfathomable win against a Memphis team that saw both Gay and Randolph return tonight!

THANK YOU JERRYD! Gotta keep those Nets down (but not too down).

So true. Tonight I was happy to see the Nets lose, but at the same time I was worried they might lose too many times. Weird feeling.

They played without Deron, Lopez, and Crash tonight. They're going to get some wins down the stretch, especially with their schedule. I'll hazard a guess now and say that they end up somewhere in the 8-10 range.

Lopez is out another two weeks, I think. We'll see how Deron's calf injury affects him, and whether or not he quits on the season after recent developments - that'll be key.

Milwaukee is currently easing past Golden State, which is good for keeping the Nets out of the playoff race.

Got a nagging feeling that the Nets pick, if they finish in the lottery, will be one of those "where the @#$% did they pull that top two pick from?"

PFs and a SF....not like we need a Center or PG or anything... I know it's way early. Obviously team need isn't taken into account in the 2nd round. I would imagine BPE early and team need later.

I have the same feeling wick. We will end up barely missing the playoffs for like the 14th pick in the lotto, then the Nets will end up winning the lottery to get one of the Top 3 spots. That's just kind of the Blazers luck it seems. Hopefully that's not the case, but it sure wouldn't surprise me. That 4-8 spot they'll likely land in is really one of the spots you want to be in to have the best chance to move up. Seems to happen every year. :-/

The silver lining is that the pick gets more unprotected next year and the Nets could be much worse next year if DWill bolts like is expected.

Detroit, Cleveland, and Toronto need to suck a little bit more.

Nets lose to New Orleans at home - Williams and Gerald were playing.

New Orleans 'upset' NJ while Toronto also lost

that leaves the Nets with the 4th worst record which is pretty uncomfortable odds for the Blazers. It would be great to have the 4th pick, but you just know that's not how it would work out

On the bright side, the Nets are now 6 and a half games out of a playoff spot with 20 games left.

yeah, I think it's pretty well set it will be a lottery pick

I found this sheet from last season showing the odds for teams getting into the top 3:

Team 1st Pick 2nd Pick 3rd Pick
Minnesota 25.00% 21.50% 17.76%
Cleveland 19.90% 18.80% 17.11%
Toronto 15.60% 15.73% 15.57%
Washington 11.90% 12.59% 13.29%
Sacramento 7.60% 8.44% 9.49%
Utah (from NJ) 7.50% 8.34% 9.39%
Detroit 4.30% 4.94% 5.78%
Clev (from LAC) 3 2.80% 3.26% 3.88%
Charlotte 1.70% 2.00% 2.41%
Milwaukee 1.10% 1.30% 1.58%
Golden State 0.80% 0.95% 1.15%
Utah 0.70% 0.83% 1.01%
Phoenix 0.60% 0.71% 0.87%
Houston 0.50% 0.59% 0.72%

it looks like if NJ finishes right where they are now, in 4th, they would have about a 40% chance of landing in the top 3

it's quite a drop of in odds between 4th and 5th. The odds for 5th are about 25.5% of being in the top 3

7th would be 15%

8th would be less then 10%

a 1 in 10 chance sounds pretty good, but 4th pick sounds better then 8th.

Portland is in 11th right now and they would have a 3% chance.

are we feeling lucky?

I plan to bring us a bit of luck after the season ends. Be prepared. We are going to invoke the good karma gods here after our season is over.
