Jared Dudley's Value

Post#1 » by HornetJail » Fri Mar 9, 2012 11:28 pm

Just wondering what you guys would look for if you were shopping Jared Dudley. Any chance of a return to Charlotte? I want to know what that would take.

How many picks do the Bobs have over the next 2 years?

Definitely not giving up our first round pick this year, as it's likely a top 3 pick, but I'm pretty sure we've got our first for 2013. We'd ask for a little more than just Dudley, seeing as that pick would probably be a top 10 as well.

i think dudley and gortat have the highest value on the suns roster. he has a great contract. so i don't think he will be for sale anyway.

LBC, knowing our luck we would draft 4. with that Charlotte pick. And gave away 3 biggest assets for that. Ouch.

There aren't too many young SGs in the league that have a value-to-cost ratio as good as Dudley:

JoeJohnson: peak of his career, overpaid
GHenderson: rookie contract, will get a big raise ($6-8m?)
JTerry: peak of his career, earns double what Dudley does
Afflalo: comparable player, much higher price tag
BGordon: overpaid
Monte: superior player and paid as such
KMartin: overpaid at this stage in his career
PGeorge: rookie contract, will get a big raise
OJMayo: rookie contract, will get a big raise
Wade: superior player and paid as such
EGordon: rookie contract, about to get a big big raise
James Harden: rookie contract, will get a big raise
JJRedick: lesser player, higher paycheck
WMatthews: better player on a bigger contract
MThornton: good player on a good contract
DDerozan: rookie contract, will get a big raise

The Suns aren't trading Dudley. There's no need to. Him and Gortat and Frye are here to stay for the term of their contracts, at the least. They give us what we need and they're happy to be here, and we're not looking to move them. Everyone else on the team is fair game, but those 3 would need a deal that's quite favourable to us, and no team would be willing to offer up an intriguing enough trade for us to even consider dealing them.

I really would like to know what he's worth to other teams. He's got a great 3PT shot, great hustle, high BBIQ, he's a fantastic team mate and on an excellent deal. I don't think anyone is giving up any top picks for him because he's one of those scrappy guys with low potential.

Dudley is worth what Posey was when he was good.
Reliable role player who contributes both sides every night.

Dudley + Suns 2012 first top 8 protected + Frye for Bobcats 2012 pick no.1 protected.

They aren't taking on Frye and Dudleys deal and a top 8+ pick for their top pick.

Dudley is too good on and off the court as well as being a fan favorite and having a great contract. He and Gortat are the 2 we need to build around.

That's definitely something I would have thought about prior to the season, but I didn't think the Suns were going to be anywhere near 19-22 at any point in the season. I thought the Suns were going to be closer to where the Kings are (currently 14-27) with a more than likely top 5 pick. Since you're actually approaching .500, that would be a [rather difficult] no deal.

However, if Nash were to be traded for not a whole lot in return, I would really want to pull the trigger on that trade, since the Suns would certainly start to fall away from .500 closer to a 6-8 pick.

If someone offers a pick somewhere between the 8-13 range I'd do it. Jared is another one of those players in the Battier, Posey, Bowen mold. Not a guy to build around at all, but he is imperative to a teams success.

That just sounds so strange for a fan to ever say that an NBA team needs to build around Dudley and Gortat.

Ya they are both young and have good heads on their shoulders are pretty good at basketball and have really good contracts too. I mean as in starting center and sixth man then adding a couple big time players over the next couple years via free agency, draft and/or trade.

You gotta admit Dudley is the perfect 6th man.

The only way the Bobcat's DON'T do this is if they win the lottery and have the #1 pick.

Gortat and Dudley would instantly make the Bobcats MUCH better than they currently are, especially since the only rotational player their giving up is Thomas, who's overpaid on a lengthy contract.
