How can the wizards get quality players?

Post#1 » by Knighthonor » Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:58 am

This has been a concern of mine.
Just looking at the McGee/Nick trade, I notice
That non of the wizards roster have any quality for trade value, to even be considered for trading for quality players.

Then they have the NBA Draft, which is a once a year kind of thing. In order to get quality this way, you looking at a one key player per year, kind of thing. And each player chosen is kind of a risk, since they may not be quality. This method takes the longest.

The last option is free agency. But what has the wizards done here? What quality players did the wizards pick up? This seems to be the only way to get talent for the wizards as of now. It's sad. But a reality.

WTF?

The Wizards get quality players by drafting them, signing them, or trading for them; just like any other team.

Whats the point of making a thread for this?

That's what I listed.

Trading:what value can you trade from a list of no valued players?

Drafting: how many top 3 picks they get each year? Again, this is also a risk, since we don't know if they will be a star or a bust, or where they fall in between those two extremes.

Signing: what has been done in this area? This seems to most efficient method of getting quality, since they have no trade value, and drafting takes two long and risky, only thing left is signing. But what has come from this area of getting quality players?

I think we should just have a general question thread for inquiries that don't necessarily merit their own thread. Also your workaround to free agency being the preferred method of player acquisition is like watching Aristotle swinging his logic stick at the pinata of physics except not so much with the Aristotle.

Sometimes I wonder if Ernie Grunfeld has ever attempted to go through this thought process..

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Yeah excuse me. This thread looks like it won't turn into the discussion I envisioned it would have.

Still, it got that great clip loop in dangermouse's post. Sometimes you can't predict where your successes will come from.

The key is starting as many new threads as possible.

No need to pile on. Guy's just trying to further a discussion. Lighten up people.

Don't think of it as piling on, just think of it as late arriving snark. I blame my children.

Knight, I appreciate your enthusiasm for discussion. Before you start a new thread, ask if there's an existing one where your thought might go. Peace.

I think it's an interesting question, as well. The team has had the opportunity to sign, trade and draft over the last couple of years, and has failed to do well for one cardinal reason. Ernie Grunfeld. Until he goes and we have new vision at the top for the team, we're just treading water.

I am absolutely dreading the concept of Ernie remaining in charge after this year.
