OK, for a honky he is.

By athleticism I mean he's fairly quick, although perhaps not as quick as he used to be. He's still above average though. It's really surprising to me that he's not a better defensive player, but that could be because his positioning and/or peripheral vision just plain suck.

When Kobe is off the floor and Bynum is out there with the 2nd unit, Sessions will be the guy penetrating and getting him great looks (or they can work the PnR) while guys like Goudelock, Murphy, and Barnes stretch the floor. That's honestly a better rotation than having Blake out there since he can't create worth a damn anyway.

Blake is still a very athletic player and can help us more on defense than offense, so hopefully that becomes his primary focus (as well as knocking down those open 3's).

I don't understand why Sessions isn't starting tonight though? I thought he was cleared and available? I was hoping to never see Morris again.

i agree with all of that. Sessions really has no place starting next to Kobe, especially with Metta on the court. our spacing would be epcially bad. hes much better in the 2nd unit where we have no one who can create, but shooters in Goudelock and Murphy.

Without a doubt. Watching him go right by people and finish at the rim was a thing of beauty!

Pau seems sensible. Good for him.

Metta as captain? As an outsider I couldn't see that being a good choice.

I was looking forward to potentially seeing sessions starting though, going to have to wait, I imagine until next season unless its a quick transition, experienced heads for the playoffs and all that.

Umm no is right. People have to start facing the fact Blake is garbage, PERIOD! He can't make an entry pass to the post, his shot is spotty & what defense? He gets blown by like a hobo holding a sign that says will work for $1,000,000! The only reason he still has on a Lakers uniform is because everyone backed on on the deal that would have shipped his Malachi from children of the corn looking a** out of here.

Sessions will be the starter within 3 games, no question. He'll play 36-38 minutes per, so he'll have time on the court with the 2nd unit. If Blake wasn't starting over Fish, he certainly isn't starting over Sessions. I like Blake, but the 1st unit needs what Sessions brings, especially taking some ball handling and penetration load away from Kobe. But most of all, the starters (big minutes players) need his quickness on D.

Steve Blake is still an NBA level point guard though and is a solid back up option.

This.

Too many people are getting enamored with his production with the second unit and thinking he'd be a better fit with them.

Hate to break it to you guys, but any starting caliber PG will make a second unit look good. We moved Fisher to free up the starting spot for Sessions, not Blake.
