What picks do we exactly have?

Post#1 » by rocketsballin » Sat Mar 17, 2012 1:24 am

im too lazy to follow all these picks, with all those top 5/20/55 protected or this team makes/misses the playoffs or kevin martin sucks ****. they should have all the picks for each team somewhere. i just saw max post in the motie thread mention 5 picks, each of them protected.

so i ask all u wannabe gms out there, what picks does this team have? what provisions/incentives/whatever are on those picks?

Our own 2012 1st Round pick is Top 14 protected - if we make the playoffs it goes to New Jersey. if we miss it we keep it.

The New York 2012 pick is top 5 protected for this year. As long as it is 6+ we get it this year.

The Dallas Pick is Top 20 protected for, like, 5 years. If they don't have a pick outside of the top 20 by 2018 we get it that year without protection.

the extended protection....you'll want to ask one of our smrt posters.

if we make the playoffs, NY gets a top 5 pick and Dallas gets a top 20 pick then we have ZERO picks this year

if we miss the playoffs, NY doesn't get a top 5 pick and Dallas gets a 21-30 pick then we have THREE picks in the draft.

So we could have either 0, 1, 2 or 3 picks in this draft.

NY's pick isn't sure because it's top 5 protected.
Our own pick isn't sure because NJ gets it if we make the playoffs. Thanks T-Will and Morey!

my bad, by sure i mean no real chance of us losing that pick. i have no doubt we make the playoffs, so our own pick is gone. even if dantoni stayed, i think ny would make the playoffs. no way melo, stat, and toni would allow them to miss the playoffs in the east, yuck

Nets do not have to use the Rockets pick this year, so there is no guaranteed that they will.

Did not know the Dallas pick was unprotected in 2018. Sweet!

i think we should intentionally miss the playoffs this year, the 2012 class is simply mind-blowing, and a lottery pick can change the team for years. if we make it to the playoffs, we lose our extremely valuable pick, and we'll probably get eliminated in the first round.

ny pick will be great too, hope woodson will be worse than d'antoni.

this team already stated they wont tank, even if they watned to its too late for that. just traded for camby (maybe fisher plays) for a playoff push. we need that mug badly, our paint defense doesnt hold up late in games, and mchale needs to stop being a wuss and play dalembert even with 5 fouls. if he fouls out so what, we need him in crunch time. w/ camby and dalembert, i better not see a stupid small ball lineup at the end of games. i'll go to the bench myself and tell one of them to get the **** on the court.

the fisher trade was really fo rthe pick. he's gonna get bought out. if he does play in the following weeks he'll get useful minutes with our depleated backcourt

why do we have to give an almost-7-footer man full of potential and get an iconic douchebag for a late first round draft pick?

sorry, we could have done a lot better.

Hill is not full of potential what you see is what you get and that is lazy and inconstant

Because Hill wasn't being brought back and we replaced him for nothing in Camby

Are you telling me you would rather have:

Hill, Flynn, and Thabeet

over

a 2012 #1 (21-24 range), Marcus Camby, a cap hit from Fisher

We made excellent moves this year, as always.

Man, it never fails to amaze me just how many people don't get Morey's moves.

Every one of them is exactly what I would do... if I was a freaking jedi master risk management guru future predicting savant with roughly double my current IQ and a doctorate from MIT in awesomeology.

Yes, we could have come out better this year than we did.. so eat sh*t, Stern.

Well, I kindof wish we'd only made the Fisher trade now. Eh. Let's see how it works out.

So it looks like a 3 pick year in a VERY deep draft.

1. Ours, since we crapped the bed.
2. NY's, since theirs isn't top 5.
3. Dallas', since they had a top 20 record.

Can somebody verify that for me, while I spend the next 2 months doing mock drafts?

I thought Dallas needed a top 10 record for us to get their pick?

Yep. You're right. Via HoopsWorld:

Houston Rockets: Receives 2012 first-round pick (top-5 protected through 2015) from New York via Tracy McGrady trade on 2/18/10. Receives Dallas’ 2012 first-round pick (via L.A. Lakers from the Jordan Hill trade on 3/15/12; top-20 protected in 2012-2017, unprotected in 2018) via the Lamar Odom trade on 12/11/11.

So it's 2 1st round picks, most likely.

Now to figure out the 2nd round picks.

**edit: Just to keep things nice and confusing, the Mavs are close to having a top 10 record. uhh...go Mavs?**

Rockets receive the Timberwolves' 2012 second-round pick (from 31-55 or extinguished)
Pistons receive the Rockets' 2012 second-round pick (top 40 protected in 2012, top 35 protected in 2013 and 2014, unprotected in 2015)

so we only have Minnesota 2nd round pick
