I agree.

Jonas Valanciunas will never be the wide receiver John Stallworth was.

Excellent attitude for rebound and good blocker
And he has a nice jumpshot too
Enough for a rookie ( i.e. DeAndre has no skills)

I don't know, I've heard he can run a slant with the best.

Los Manos made this 7 min highlight reel which gives you some indication of what he can do.

This video actually shows that he has developed a decent post game, a mid range shot and shot fake. Almost a year ago he was mainly a pick and roll Centre.

I'll go one further. I think Val will be the next Lynn Swann.

He might get to Donte Stallworth level, though. Val's not as fast but has better hands.

Why the hype is about? What does that mean?

You cant say its not just homerisim when all you make is a homer statement.

I am a big Val fan, I have high hopes for him.. I am just tempering them.

I 100% agree with your sentiments here, I have a feeling it's the same guys who barely having actually watched real games of Jonas will turn on him instantly if/when he goes through rookie struggles during his rookie season.

Ask why mock drafts have MKG at 2nd place, but instead he is a 7 footer with a jump shot.

the point is you just watch clips, at first I was like you, thought Val was over hyped and we should of got knight, a smart kid willing to learn with a ton of upside. I remember after drafting him I went straight to Nba draft websites and watched his clips, and was really disappointed. all I saw was a really thin guy with a shaky hook shot which he can only preform with his left hand, and a bunch of weak dunks, then I started reading about how everyone here loved him off and was totally confused. So I watched him during the summer euro cup thingy, and my eyes were opened. He was affecting games in ways that couldn't be recorded, through hockey assist, tip ins, setting solid screens - although I remember he went crazy with setting screens one game and wouldn't stop, just frustrating the opposing team - stepping out to defend even point guards, and an extremely high motor. He reminds me of Tyson chandler in that the both bring defense and have relatively high FG% , and he just reminds me of him and Noah.

Anyway's moral of the story is, you can't judge certain players by just YouTube clips. And you have to look at potential too, you should never draft players that don't have room to grow just look at Kemba, and Jimmer. In fact a good scout knows to look for a prospect that doesn't have a post game yet, because they would b that much better when they develop one.

See the way he looks at his jersey, he's thinking "I'm going to lead us to glory"

Image
See the way Demar, JJ and Sonny greet him, they are all shocked at how good looking he is (no homo).

Image
See the way he slams down his 5th dunk in this game, blow by Pau Gasol, "the dunk of the year" over Thomas and inbound alley-oop pass by Bargs to Val to get the game-winning dunk.

Image
And the game winning block on Dwight in the final game of first round against Magic.

Yes, you see his hype is bigger than ever for many and many reason.

His post game is legit for a 19 year old. Polished foot work, up and under moves, pumpfakes, read the defenses and can finish left and right.
Deadly first step makes his simple face up game very effective.
Mid range shot and +80% FT shooter, draws tons of fouls.
Very good finisher around the rim and extremely efficient. 71.6 TS% this season.
Amazing pick and roll big, overall good off ball player, good hands.

As for now, he is clearly better offensively than he is defensively.
