Barea: What's your opinion on him?
I was very ecstatic when we signed him in the offseason. Living near Dallas, I got to watch a lot of him, and he was really the only player on the Mavs who I liked. So, with Barea joining Rubio, I was very excited and expecting big things out of Dos Lobos. But Barea has been a major disappointment, in my eyes anyways.
Too many turnovers. Too many forced shots. Too much complaining to the refs. Not enough hustling. When he played for Dallas, he hustled nonstop. That's why so many Mavs fans loved him.
I'm not making this thread in reaction to the Barea/Love altercation. Those things happen in the heat of the moment. I'm making this thread to gauge the board's opinion on Barea. If any of you are on facebook and keep up with comments on the Timberwolves official facebook, it's pretty laughable the debates going on about Barea.
To me, he's not a PG. Never has been, never will be. He's an undersized 2-guard or combo guard. If you need him to create shots for others or be a distributor, you're in trouble. His role needs to be, come off the bench with a pass-first PG and pick and choose the times in which to shoot and drive.

I was meh about the signing. If I had to chose between Ridnour & Barea, I'd probably stick with Ridnour. I don't think the Rubio/Ridnour/Barea combo will stick around. I'd probably lean towards trading Barea if I could. Would rather use that $4 mil to go towards another player.

He's annoying me, but he will probably stick around for next season since we don't how Rubio will come back unless Lee will show something in the summer league and training camp.

i pretty much hate him to be honest(obviously as a basketball player)...i am so sick of watching him dribble and pound the ball for entire possessions and take awful shots. i really hope we can get rid of him in the off season.

Re: Barea: What's your opinion on him?
Barea, ideally, is a guy you can bring in who can get his shot off and ignite an offense if it stalls. However, I don't see him here as a long term fit with guys like Ruibo and Luke around him. Luke and Barea are an okay duo from a bench standpoint, but I much prefer the defense of Malcolm lee in that role.
We should set it up like a hockey team and get that All-Star SG who compliments Rubio (Shooter, Defender, good handles, create his own shot) so we can just sub in our 2nd line (Lee and Ridnour) when necessary.
SG ??? / Lee
PG Rubio / Ridnour

I didn't think anyone could be worse at running the point than Ridnour was last season.
I was wrong.
Having both Barea and Ridnour on the same team is gross.

"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

Barea is a combo guard, that is more SG than PG. I think he can be good coming off the bench, but he's not an ideal starting point guard. He looks for his own offense too much.

I think Love misses Sebastian Telfair.

So who's that All-Star SG that we can get? I'm very curious.

Re: Barea: What's your opinion on him?
He's basically all of the negatives of Beasley (turnover prone, injury prone, ball-stopper, bad defense, etc) without any of the positives (good size for position, great chemistry with the core, potential).
Wes Johnson and Barea should have been the guys aggressively shopped at the trade deadline. As it is, we should be really trying to move them both this off season for a SG and then move forward with prefuse's Rubio + SG/ Ridnour + Lee lineup.

Have you watch the jj barea facebook page? The Barea homers say that Rubio and Love are gay, that Rubio should be benched, because he can't shoot(before the injury), that Barea should be starting and Rubio is all hype.

I don't know how you can be a fan of a chucker.

Pretty much. I like him in the beginning as he seemed to really take Rubio under his wing and mentor him. He was always pulling Ricky aside and explaining things to him. I loved the vet mind game he played in that freethrow situation a while back, too.
Lately, though, it seems like all of his negative traits have come to the surface at the same time. He needs to play like a vet and not a rookie chucker like he has been playing.

Agreed. He plays out of control and consistently throws up prayers. I still have people tell me how awesome he is, probably cause they're just catching a few highlights of him on ESPN. I've been questioning his personality a bit too. He doesn't seem to blend well with this team and the latest Klove incident seems to highlight that. This is one of the most boring wired up clips I've ever seen....

He's very hot and cold. He can either dominate a game or shoot you out of it. Basically he'd be fine as just a bench player who you don't have to rely on, problem is that we do have to rely on him because we only have 2 pgs.

Re: Barea: What's your opinion on him?
was it only 2 or 3 games ago someone was complimenting him for pulling Williams aside during a game and giving him some pointers? He is what he is, an undersized guard better at attacking then distributing but with championship experience and a native spanish speaker (though a different dialect from Rubio). He is very similar to Luke, neither a true point guard but both too small to be SG's. In the long run, there's no need for both of them but I'm not sure which of the two I prefer, it tends to fluctuate by how well they are shooting. His health has been a concern this year, but that's been the only surprising negative.

Re: Barea: What's your opinion on him?
Things were a lot better with Barea when Rubio was healthy and Barea was able to play his natural role of "off the bench instant offense." He was great in the playoffs last year for Dallas, and I hope he will be great for us in the playoffs next year. His playoff experience is something that would be really important to have in any replacement if we do try to move him.
When he is an important part of the normal functioning of the offense, though, he frequently makes me want to put him on a giant catapult and launch him to Iowa.

My comments in bold.
I hated the signing, got sucked in by a few games when the chucker was hitting some shots and got optimistic, but since game vs Knicks hate everything about his game.

No. But the crap going on on the Timberwolves page is ridiculous.
