Severn--folks were writing off Seraphin last season as well. He was basically seen as useless and trade fodder. Now he's averaging 9 pts. / 8 rebs. /2.5 blks in starter minutes.

I think with time, Singleton will become competent offensively, while being a good "team" defender. He'll be on the same level as a James Posey. Not a shutdown defender, but pretty good. Posey was pretty bad his first few years in the league, and then became solid in the middle of his career. I expect the same from Singleton.

Seraphin's situation was a little different since he didn't start playing until he was 15 and also had a language barrier to overcome.

The counter argument is that most players do get better defensively over time, and Singleton just needs to be able to hit open shots from a couple of spots to be serviceable. Other players have made a similar transition to "3 and D", so there is precedent for him to follow.

Like for so many players, it will come down to the effort he exerts training to maximize his ability.

That is not a counter argument at all unless you are directing this post to a post other than the one preceding yours. My post was simply pointing out that comparing Singleton to Seraphin was not a good comparison.

I am indeed, Tontoz; I was addressing the series of posts before that one and the general argument that Singleton will not be able to improve enough to be useful.

Alllllrighty then. But he has to improve a lot on both sides of the ball to become useful. I would be more optimistic if he hadn't spent 3 years in college.

Moving on last year Memphis was 1st in points in the paint scoring. This year even without Randolph most of the year they were 4th. The Wizards outscored them in the paint by 10 last night without Nene even though Memphis had 11 more offensive boards.

@Mods

Hey you mind starting another discussion thread on something relating to depth of players on the team?
