This whole "we don't sign players for more than 5 years" is nonsense and just another excuse for rogers not to spend big $$$. I'll be even more pissed if this team is in position to win it all when Votto potentially becomes available, and we don't sign him because of that BS policy.

I think the '5 year policy' is AA's Idea. But like you said, I would be mad if this team is ready when Votto is available. But maybe if we are ready, AA might go over the 5 year limit. And why do people hate rogers? They are one of the most, if not the most richest owners, so I don't think they have a problem about spending big money. I think its mostly AA. Also, right now there is no point on spending big money. When Lawrie,and all those other prospects are about to become FA's, thats when you'll see the payroll go up. If we had a huge payroll now, how are we going to sign those prospects? Plus, who on this team besides Bautista deserve's a huge contract?
